(Before It's News)
Too frequently the news media is replete with stories of
handgun violence taking the form of massacres involving innocent young.

The homicide/suicide of a Kansas City Chiefs player with his baby’s mother and
other violence featuring packs of gangs raise the deluded specter of just taking
away guns which will stop the problem. It is not unexpected that
many will call for control of hand guns in the wake of the murder of 26 victims
from the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
There are already laws on the book in reference to
waiting for clearance to purchase a handgun or the ban on repeating rifles for
individual use. On any street in most neighborhoods of increasing poverty,
guns can be readily purchased on the cheap and tougher laws won’t take guns out
of the hands of criminals rather it hits citizens who may need them to protect
themselves. That the perpetrator in Connecticut got his guns
legally from his mother’s stash begs the question — was she a gun enthusiast
who like many shoot for sport? Or, could this mother have been
arming herself against something within her own environment which unfortunately
came to fruition?
The true problem in massacre’s as well as most murders is
being missed, i.e. mental illness. Being a physician who use to
moonlight in the ER’s and worked as a detoxification director for a 16 county
catchments area showed clearly the great under estimation of the numbers who
self medicate with illegal drugs and are violently inclined.
Having been a teacher, a school board member as well as volunteer worker
with drop outs, there is a glaring disconnect between our willingness to deal
with mental illness and diseases in that category which includes learning
disabilities, behavioral disorders, personality disorders as well as a host of
alphabet categories used to politely describe those with conditions of the brain
which place them outside of that considered
normal.
To have a child with any of these problems is to often be
left on ones own in coping with them. 10% of families are riddled
with those who have some form of mental illness. Assistance which
works is likely not there. Mental Illness as I have previously
described in columns and discuss in my book on Common Sense Conservative
Prescriptions Solutions Good For What Ails Us, Book I is our
national shame.
Mental conditions are medical problems which
unfortunately don’t get the insurance coverage that many medical conditions
have. ObamaCare will prove inadequate to address these issues and
resources in schools to test, to counsel and to treat are not there and may not
even work to a large extent.
Mental conditions are unfortunately not curable, are
expensive to treat, have limited benefits directed their way and have a paucity
of trained professionals who have the experience and training to effectively
manage the cases. Genetics is important to understanding risk
factors in many conditions and most folks don’t want to accept that they had a
hand in what is ultimately produced in this world. Confused minds in a world of degradation of human value
through movies, music and videos rev’s up the excitable and the impressionable
while many are caught in the satanic twilight lusting for vampires, demons and
other conflicting spirits.
Hire more resource officers which compromise the
educational budget, allow some authority in the school to be armed or have such
access in response to unpredictable outbreaks if you think that will
help. But also appreciate that much is being lost in the US as
people increasingly want to legalize drugs and do them while pregnant.
People also are frequently turning away from G-d, religion or a spiritual
centering and rely on their own devices to cope with problems.
How’s that working for you?
