In a
Charleston Post and Courier story, Horne cited concerns about
“timeliness of DSS response to complaints about child welfare and delayed court proceedings because department paperwork was not in order.” This included one instance where the agency failed to act three years after parental rights had been terminated three years ago and another where a girl was placed in a Dorchester County home with a registered sex offender.
Not surprisingly, after being placed with the uncle, the child was taken out after reports of … yep … physical abuse by the uncle.
It would be nice if the agency would be held accountable for a change, but asking for that would be like beating a dead horse (or child, as the agency would probably prefer).
