Again this week, we are trying to make sense of the recent tragedy in Connecticut. If you missed our previous thoughts, go to Inspireandignite.com. The entire document is posted.
If the evil around us is more the result of a valueless society than an inherent weakness in our laws, our safety depends more on stronger values than it does on more regulations.
If our culture continues to embrace relativism and refuses to make moral judgments about critical issues, if we insistent there is no absolute right or wrong, we are creating a culture that will to reap the results of its misguided understanding of the human soul.
By restricting the mention of God in our schools and public dialog we minimize the concept of a higher authority to which we are accountable. If we simultaneously embrace the concept of victimhood, we weaken the idea of individual accountability. When we separate consequences from actions, we further reduce our commitment to personal responsibility.
This kind of culture inevitably produces more beasts and fewer angels.
