You know, this has happened before. Israel was attacked on all sides in 1967. The war lasted only six days with Israel defeating all involved Arab states including Syria and Egypt. The military leaders of Israel understand that aggression can only be met with fierce, explosive response. They are capable and they have the will. They know that they are fighting for their country’s life.
The question now is just how far Israel will carry their response. If they don’t drive Hamas out they will have to repeat this over and over again.
Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns; The organization is concerned the IDF’s operation could be the end to Hamas’s rule over the Gaza Strip.
From the Jerusalem Post: Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation.
Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis.
