AZ Senator John McCain Statements and Letters

Washington, D.C. ­– U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), John Barrasso (R-WY) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today met with Estonian officials, including Estonian President Toomas Hendrick Ilves, in Tallinn, Estonia to discuss security threats in a region that is on the front lines of Russia’s rising aggression. An important component of their conversations was the case of Estonian police officer, Mr. Eston Kohver, who was illegally abducted by Russian operatives one year ago and recently sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for crimes he did not commit. Senators McCain, Whitehouse and Barrasso released the following statement calling on the Russian Federation to release Mr. Kohver from detention:

Washington, D.C. ­– U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Tom Udall (D-NM) today expressed their appreciation to Senate Indian Affairs Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) and Vice Chairman Jon Tester (D-MT) for agreeing to hold an oversight hearing on the impact of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Gold King Mine spill on the Navajo Nation in Arizona and New Mexico, as well as other issues of concern for the reservation. Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) sent the following letter today the Secretary of the Army John McHugh urging him to use all tools at his disposal to ensure that additional land adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery is used to expand the cemetery and increase the number of interment sites.

Washington, D.C. ­– U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today sent the following letter to Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting an explanation for why Umm Sayyaf, whom the White House has said was “complicit” in the captivity of Kayla Mueller, the U.S. citizen and aid worker who was abducted and held by ISIL in Syria until her tragic death earlier this year, was not was not extradited to the United States to stand trial.

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today sent the following letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy expressing serious concern about the Gold King Mine spill and seeking information on how the EPA intends to address its impact on communities in northern Arizona.
