I had to watch the Republican debate tonight on my phone because I was set up in a room without a DVR which I need to watch Fox Business Network on TV. The phone was a little glitchy but I was able to watch most of it.
I was happy to hear substantive questions about policies rather than the ridiculous questions we heard in the prior debates.
I thought that Ted Cruz did great. When Maria Bartiromo brought up Hillary Clinton’s “impressive resume” Cruz responded that her policies have been a disaster, which was spot on. He also pointed out how the wealthy do very well under Democrats because they just get in bed with big government. Also, abolishing the IRS sounded pretty good. His righteous indignation over being called anti-immigrant also didn’t hurt.
John Kasich, who the liberal media will probably declare the winner, was a disaster. I don’t even know where to begin, he was so bad. He pretty much lost me when he said (I’m paraphrasing) that executives shouldn’t have principles because they have to take action.
Marco Rubio did well, I was especially happy to hear him encourage young people to get into skilled trades.
I would have preferred to see Chris Christie on the main stage over either Jeb Bush or John Kasich.
Rand Paul’s supporters should be happy with his performance. He made some great points about the debt and how our country is going broke. I wish the national debt got more attention and I was glad he brought it up.
Donald Trump also did well, but he didn’t get as much air time as you might have expected. He seemed a little more congenial to his fellow Republicans than he has in the past.
Fox News commentators are saying that Ben Carson won the debate, but he got so little air time I would have to disagree. He certainly didn’t hurt himself but I wouldn’t say he won.
Carly Fiorina had a good grasp of the issues. But she talks so fast. When she spoke I felt like I was at an auction.
Did I forget anyone? I missed the early debate, so I have nothing on that one.
If you get there soon Grabien has quite a few clips from the debate on their home page.
Oh, and there were a couple of things I didn’t have the chance to get to because of the debate:
Bill O’Reilly needs to stop writing books on history. Really, he should just stop.
Political correctness is turning into a big problem. Liberals offend me, under the new PC rules does that mean I can shut down their speech?
The US is going to help Iran build a nuclear reactor. What could go wrong?
Speaking of what could go wrong, the TPP trade bill was finally unveiled and it’s thousands of pages long, even worse than Obamacare. How can anyone have read the whole thing, and why on earth would John Kasich support it?
