(Before It's News)

As they continue to consider how many nurseries should take part in the industry, a House panel approved a bill on Monday that would allow patients with terminal illnesses to legally use medical marijuana.

The House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee voted 9-2 for the bill after making a change that reduced the number of nurseries. The nurseries also known as dispensing organizations, will be able to cultivate, process and sell marijuana.

A 2014 law which allowed non-euphoric types of cannabis included a limit of five dispensing organizations. The bill that was approved on Monday would allow broader types of marijuana for patients with terminal illnesses. It is also an expansion of the “Right To Try Act” which allows patients to have access to experimental drugs which have not been approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Matt Gaetz (R- Fort Walton Beach) sponsored the bill along with Katie Edwards (D- Plantation). Gaetz requested the subcommittee reduce the suggested 20 dispensing organizations down to 5. He said the change was due to trying to eliminate additional costs.
