(Before It's News)

Following Sen. David Perdue’s (R-Ga.) statement about the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act, FreedomWorks Director of Communications Jason Pye commented:

“It’s disappointing to see Sen. Perdue make such misleading and hypocritical statements about the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act. The changes unveiled Thursday are reasonable and will promote public safety, which is why conservatives like Sens. Mike Lee, Tim Scott, and Rand Paul support this bill. In fact, many of the sentencing reforms in this bill – including an expanded ‘safety valve’ and retroactivity under the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 – are similar to those found in the Smarter Sentencing Act, of which Perdue is a cosponsor.”

“Georgia is doing great things on justice reform under Gov. Deal’s leadership. Since 2012, the Georgia General Assembly has passed comprehensive sentencing and corrections reforms and placed a heavy focus on re-entry. The reforms proposed in the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act continue the efforts of conservative states like Georgia and will bring these long overdue policies to the federal level.”

Pye is a life-long resident of Metro Atlanta, a precinct chairman in his local Republican Party, and a delegate to the Georgia Republican Party State Convention in June.
