U.K. Politician on London Terror: Mayor’s Muslim Beliefs ‘Completely Irrelevant’

(Before It's News)

A former minister of state for trade and investment in the United Kingdom, Digby Jones, said the fact London’s mayor is Muslim has nothing to do with the terror attack — an attack which was committed by a Muslim convert, Khalid Masood, and that left four dead and several injured.

Jones’ remarks came as lawmakers in Britain were debating the attack, its reasons and the country’s response. Raised during the discussions was the content of a recent tweet from Eric Trump Jr., who wrote, in response to London’s attacks: “You have to be kidding me?! Terror attacks are part of living in big city, says London Mayor Sadiq Khan.”

Trump’s tweet was actually a response to something Khan said in previous interviews — when he seemed to suggest that terrorism was a way of life for big city residents, and that modern day living meant innocent civilians had to adjust to that reality.

Trump’s tweet didn’t go over well with the left-leaning politicos in Britain.

From the Washington Post:

“British lawmakers emerging from Westminster Abbey, where they found sanctuary after the attack, also defended the [Muslim] mayor — and insisted his Muslim identity would not be a factor as the city comes to grips with the incident. ‘There should not be a single thought about what his identity is,’ said Pola Uddin, a member of the House of Lords. ‘This is a moment of reflection for all Londoners, and should lead us to consider the fact that we largely haven’t experienced such attacks before, while other cities have.’

“Dominic Grieve, a Conservative MP, said the mayor was not in a difficult position owing to prior statements on terrorism and security — “none whatsoever,” he said.

“The message the mayor has sent to London residents is fitting, said Digby Jones. ‘You’re safer in London than you’ve ever been,’ he said. ‘If this turns out to be an act of Islamic terrorism, I think the fact that the man is a Muslim is utterly and completely irrelevant.’”
