It was not electric, rock, blues, country or loud but Frankie Avalon’s “Venus” is one of the most popular songs ever recorded. It was the # 1 song in the country in March 1959. It was # 1 for 5 weeks and # 3 for the year.
It is still one of the most requested tunes on the radio today. Our mothers love it!
It is the song that our parents or grandparents danced to for Valentine’s Day. Just ask your mother or grandmother about it!
Frankie turned 70 something a few months ago. I don’t know if he is still recording but he left his mark on the charts with various pop songs. He also made all of those ”beach movies” with Annette Funicello.
