Looks like progressive absolutism is getting close to the book-burning stage:
Three senior House Democrats asked U.S. teachers Monday to destroy a book written by climate scientists challenging the environmentalist view of global warming.
The conservative Heartland Institute distributed copies of Why Climate Scientists Disagree About Global Warming to science teachers, to make sure they are aware of both sides of the issue. Lysenkoist lawmakers are enraged:
Democratic Reps. Bobby Scott of the Committee on Education, Raúl M. Grijalva of the Committee on Natural Resources, and Eddie Bernice Johnson of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology all issued a statement telling teachers to trash the book.
More specifically, Scott called for the book to be thrown in the “recycling bin.” He might have demanded that it be burned, but that could produce CO2 emissions, imperiling the sacred man-eating polar bears.
We should be grateful that requests to destroy science books that fail to comply with liberal ideology are still voluntary — for now.
