Why I have a lot less to say these days…

(Before It's News)

We set up this site for various reasons but it was always to support limited government and individual liberty. Unchanged since the founding is this simple truth…

The Real Revo is made up of free markets, free minds and the right to enjoy the fruits of your own industry.

Supporting that mission during the Obama years was easy. We opposed the big government of the Leviathan and our readers supported us. We used to get upwards of 10,000 hits every day during those trying times. In those days opposing the centralized administrative state and and opposing the administration were one and the same.

It has become evident, however, that opposing the power of the administrative state and opposing the Obama Administration were, to many people, very different things. Many people who frequented this site, I think, were here to oppose Barack Obama specifically, not the depredations to freedom that always result from centralized power.

So now there is a new administration but the Leviathan remains. The centralized administrative state now serves those who opposed Obama and those who supported Obama are now opposed to the state. The two teams tear at each other in order to control the state and control the riches and power the state, in turn, controls.

I have never been motivated by this battle for control of the Leviathan. During the Obama years, I opposed Obama because Obama had the power to pick winners and losers. It was never my desire to submit to a team to gain political power in order or to be a winner. It was my desire to take the government out of the business of picking winners and losers. Frankly, it was always a nearly impossible dream but, as Samuel Adams said, “It does not take a majority to prevail… but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.” I always felt we were setting brush fires here.

Things have changed. Now “our guy” is in the White House and opposition to the power administrative state isn’t as alluring as it once was. There is an expectation that those who opposed Obama should support Trump. It is our turn now. Later it will again be the turn of the people who supported Obama and after that it will be our turn again. There are turnovers ever few years but “you gotta support your team when your team has the ball”.

The thing is, I have never really supported a political team. I don’t even support the game. I never have. It is too consequential. As Obama said, “elections matter” but they matter way too damned much. Success and failure in your life should not be dependent on the outcome of an election in which your vote is, as a practical matter, meaningless.

The problem is, opposition to the power of the Leviathan state is no longer popular with many of the former regulars of this site. Obama is gone and “our guy” is in and opposition to “our guy” is seen as disloyal. The Revo used to get 10,000 to 12,000 hits a day now gets 1,500 to 2,000. Comments are way down. Longtime friends have left. They didn’t want to read continued skepticism and opposition when Donald Trump took office. Many expected loyal support and active cheerleading.

On one hand, I can’t support centralized power in any form. On the other hand, it is no fun being the opposition on my own blog. So, it seems, I have less and less to say.

The massive power of the Leviathan state will continue to grow as it gets handed back and forth between different groups of ambitious, power hungry people. People who all have one thing in common: They want to control our lives.
