Necronomicon: Grimoire of the Damned

NECRONOMICON:
GRIMOIRE OF THE DAMNED

I have always wanted to take on the controversy over a book alleged to be a grimoire, a compilation of spells and stories about the dead pagan gods. The word Necronomicon can send a chill down the spine of those who are aware of its power. Some see it as a tool of Satan or a book for the damned. Others believe the book is a myth – merely a prop for H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. To the average geeky Joe, the Necronomicon is a book bound in a cover of human skin, featured in the infamous Evil Dead cult films starring Bruce Campbell.

Regardless of what you may think of the Necronomicon, there are several editions available at bookstores. The book is best known for its antediluvian speculations. It was allegedly written in Damascus in 730 A.D. by Abdul Alhazred, with the modern text translated by someone who calls himself Simon.

Alhazred had many different books and ancient transcripts to translate; but with all of the information it is impossible to find all of the sources that are contained in what appears to be the ultimate sorcerer’s grimoire.

Some magicians will tell you that most of what the Necronomicon truly is remains in the Akashic records, meaning it can only be channeled through the collective history and memory of the true magicians of the past, and that no one has a full grasp of the madness it produces if read or learned through the practitioner.

The Akashic records are described as a compendium of the knowledge of human experience and the history of the cosmos, comprised of the memories of every human who has ever lived, an aspect of our collective consciousness. They are metaphorically described as a library; other analogies commonly found in discourse on the subject include a “universal supercomputer” and the “Mind of God”. People who describe the records assert that they are updated constantly and automatically, and that they can be accessed through astral projection or when someone is placed in a trance like state.

The fascinating aspect of the Necronomicon is its focus on extraterrestrial affairs between man and legions of gods and or demons that when asked to serve will do so for the benefit of the person who summons their assistance.

Alhazred believed that many species besides the human race had inhabited the Earth, and that much knowledge was passed to mankind in encounters with beings from “beyond the spheres” or from “other spheres”.

The Necronomicon gives us the information about other stars similar to our sun. It explains that there are many solar systems of unseen planets with their own life forms, but elaborated this belief with a good deal of metaphysical speculation in which these beings were part of a cosmic hierarchy of spiritual evolution.

He was also convinced that he had contacted beings he called the “Old Ones” using magical invocations, and warned of terrible powers waiting to return to re-claim the Earth. He interpreted this belief in the light of the Apocalypse of St. John, but reversed the ending so that the Beast triumphs after a great war in which the earth is laid waste.

There is a partial account of the Babylonian creation story called the Enuma Elish. It relates how Kingu’s blood with earth and used the clay to mold the first human beings. Marduk was considered a God that resided on Mars. Marduk is the sixth-generation god and makes man to do his bidding so the other gods can rest. This is similar to the story of God (Elohim) creating man on the 6th day so that on the 7th day he can rest.

“Blood I will mass and cause bones to be. I will establish a savage; `man’ shall be his name. Truly, savage-man I will create. He shall be charged with the service of the gods that they might be at ease.”
— Marduk from the Mesopotamian Enuma Elish

It is quite interesting to make note of the fact that Adam could have very well been an ancient astronaut that was created by the gods on the planet Mars.

The Hebrew name for man is pronounced ah-dahm. The name Adam came from that and is also related to the Hebrew o ah-dahm-ah, which means man of red clay or red earth. According to the Old Testament, a group of gods — for Elohim is plural in Hebrew — planted a garden in Eden and a man made from red clay was created to tend the garden that was seeded by these Gods. Some authors have written that the entire creation was the aftermath of an exodus from Mars or some other planet and that the way the Earth was seeded with life is through a bombardment of comets and meteors that carried the building blocks for life. These celestial bodies were actually launched from this unknown planet for Earth.

About 10,000 to 30,000 years ago, something odd occurred in the evolution of Homo sapiens: a new and different kind of modern human appeared almost magically and began evolving beside Neanderthal man in Europe and the Middle East.

The skeletal remains of a tiny hominid (human-like anthropoid) were discovered on the coast of Africa and are believed to date from about the same period (10,000 – 30,000 years ago).

The hominid was about three feet tall, had an enlarged head, and was very frail and slender when living. The jaw was so weak that it could not have been a predator; it could not have chewed raw meat or cracked bones. It would have been no stronger than a two-year old child. But this tiny creature was discovered in layers of silt that were deposited upon the Earth during the Upper Pleistocene Period before Neanderthal Man faded into evolutionary history and during a period when Cro-Magnon Man underwent an unexplained change.

Much can be described as cosmic blasphemy and from the point of view of the Necronomicon we read that there were Old Ones (From the stars) that were imprisoned beneath the Earth or beyond the Heavens.

If this sounds familiar it is because it seems to be similar to the Cthulhu mythos first popularized by the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft. His mythologies were all based on popular creation mythologies from the ancient Babylonian mysteries.

Alhazred’s speculations appear to be quite contemporary with Lovecraft’s own time, and its resemblance to more modern writing may account for the popularity of the book amongst those who have merely a dabbling interest in things leaning to the occult.

Simon’s translation includes a unique take on the creation stories and events that are only scarcely covered in the biblical Genesis or in the apocryphal Book of Enoch. Simon’s introduction claims that Lovecraft’s mythos tells of the struggle between good and evil, as personified by the good Elder Gods and the evil “Great Old Ones”. This “cosmic war” theme derives from the apocryphal Book of Enoch, cited by Lovecraft in his essay “Supernatural Horror in Literature”, and later by August Derleth in his own contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos.

According to Simon, the Ancient Ones now lie “not dead but dreaming”, awaiting a day when they may return to life. To do this, they are dependent upon the positions of the stars as well as the sacrifices of their mortal followers. These ideas largely run parallel to elements of the Cthulhu Mythos, so much so that critics claim that this is an obvious attempt to reconcile the Simon Necronomicon with Lovecraft’s well-known stories such as “The Call of Cthulhu”. The Armageddon and Apocalypse of Christianity are also referenced: following the conflagration of the End Times, the flesh of the vanquished Leviathan (The Sea Serpent or Dragon) is to be served up to the victorious survivors. It suggests that much of what we believe to be true spells and history in the Necronomicon could be fakery, or at least fabrications which have been covered before in other texts.

The Necronomicon may be a key in somehow correlating the story of ancient man, the antediluvian era and how from present day to the final days of this existence. I believe that the Necronomicon is far more than just a few sorcerers spells. It seems to give a solid mythology that can be connected to apocryphal writings that indicate that mankind has a cosmic ancestry and an equally cosmic future.

Two books that were removed from the bible, Enoch and Jasher, were backed up and translated from Qumran scrolls and state in great detail that prior to a great catastrophe on the planet earth there was an evolutionary change that happens in a cycle of several thousands of years.

In the case of The Book of Enoch there were reports of “The Watchers” or the Grigori, an Extraterrestrial race that gave knowledge to primitive man and mated with the women in order to propagate a hybrid species. These beings were also known as the Nephilim.

There were other beings known as the Bin Elohim and many more who visited and gave knowledge to mankind. Man evolved into his next phase of existence with the help of these beings. They were given simple machines and tools in order to build and grow.

These beings further taught their human charges arts and technologies such as weaponry, cosmetics, the use of mirrors, sorcery, and other techniques which were intended to be discovered gradually over time by humans, not foisted upon them all at once. The Greek mythology about Prometheus revealing fire-making to humans without Zeus’s permission is likely a variant of the same ancient legend, and it is possible also that ancient legends among many cultures about Vampires and pervasive implementation of magical powers and abduction arise from the same ancient mythology.

It is believed that after the invasion of these beings from the skies, the final word came from the heavens. While some claim it was an angry God, scientists say that a major impact crater about 3 Kilometers wide was caused by a giant comet or meteor that hit southern Iraq nearly 6000 years ago. That would put the date at about 2300 years BCE.

Ancient writings from the Epic of Gilgamesh to the bible speak of devastation at this moment in time. From Noah’s flood to the “Curse of Akkad” where Middle Eastern civilizations disappeared.

Archaeological findings show that in the space of a few centuries, many sophisticated civilizations disappeared. The Old Kingdom in Egypt fell into ruin. The Akkadian culture of Iraq, thought to be the world’s first empire, collapsed.

“And the seven judges of hell … raised their torches, lighting the land with their livid flame. A stupor of despair went up to heaven when the god of the storm turned daylight into darkness, when he smashed the land like a cup.”
— Epic of Gilgamesh on the fall of the Akkadian empire of Iraq

The focus today is on the Mayan Calendar and what is known as the “Long Count” where the Calendar keeps time up until a date that has been determined to be some time in the latter part of 2012. There have been a number of astrologers and new age philosophers that have somehow determined that the Calendar has ended on December 21st, 2012. This is the day of the winter Solstice.

December 21, 2012 has been presented as a predetermined “doomsday” when allegedly the world is going to come to an end. You can’t escape the countless theories and end of days quarrels about this important date in our future.

It is important to point out that Terence McKenna and John Jenkins are just some of the few who have spoken and said that the Long count date is December 21st, 2012. The Unfortunate thing is that this is the only aspect of the Mayan Calendar that people are talking about. There is one other date that we should also be concerned with. It is the date that ends the Galactic Creation cycle according to the calendar.

It is a time where we move into an area of the Zodiac that at one time was devoted to a character that was known as the “serpent bearer” or the “serpent god”. Many others call this area of the zodiac the “dark rift.”

The ancient Gods of the Maya and similar cultures were flying serpents or “dragons.” There are many who have speculated that these fiery serpents were not serpents at all but huge comets or meteors that hit the earth causing floods, climate changes, and extinction level events.

Our entire solar system revolves around a central Sun, which in turn revolves around the galactic center of the Milky Way.

The Galactic center is 26,000 light years from our Sun and is actually a ‘Black Hole’, a hole that vacuums up everything – light & matter and compresses it. It is referred to as zero point. It is in this area where the 13th house of the Zodiac existed before it was removed. It is an area of no time. It is the house of Ophiuchus. This area is situated between Sagittarius and Scorpio.

Although not incorporated into the 12-sign zodiac, Ophiuchus and some of the fixed stars in it were sometimes used by astrologers in antiquity as extra-zodiacal indicators in determining the times for cataclysms. It is interesting to note that the meanings of the crossing of the “Dark rift” or zero point is often associated with “Judgment” or “day of Judgment.” Also the day of Cataclysm, plague, death and the healing of the sick and raising of the dead. The serpent holder has been associated with the godlike power to judge the dead and heal the sick. When passing through Zero point the Earth is said to receive messages from the gods, messages in the form of natural cataclysm.

Metaphorically, could the appearance of snake wielding Ophiuchus in our sky be an auspicious omen, denoting an imminent and unfolding transitional time of healing and enlightenment? Maybe this represents the prophesied return of Leviathan? In essence it certainly seems like it could be, denoting the symbolism.

Despite Christianity’s negative associations, the snake or serpent has long been a symbol of knowledge, wisdom and healing in the religious and occult traditions of many cultures; especially ancient societies, Leviathan, The Dragon, Ouroboros, Asclepius and Caduceus iconography prominent among them.

The Necronomicon gives us a reason to speculate about how man has been dammed from a period of destruction to a future period of destruction.

It is interesting to note that in the Norse depiction of Armageddon, Ragnarok, a man-god- Thor- wrestles with a giant serpent named Jormungand for the fate of the world. In the book of the Apocalypse in the Bible, John saw in his vision, Michael the Archangel wrestle with the dragon and the angel bruised the serpents head.

From October 28th, 2011 to December 21, 2012, astronomers tell us that the sun’s path will visually intersect with the Galactic equator something that happens once every 26,000 years and that the Mayans identify this as rising of The Sacred Tree of life. This forms a kind of celestial crossroads where the sun in Autumnal equinox and Winter Solstice converges with the center of our galaxy. Ophiuchus leads into Sagittarius, and Sagittarius’s spear points directly into the head (eye) of the “serpent” that is wrestled in Ophiuchus’s arms.

Now while I needed to illustrate all the coincidental star movements remember that Simon’s Necronomicon and H.P. Lovecraft’s mythos all taken from Alhazred’s writing has a profound awareness of a real race of ultra terrestrials (Elder Gods and Old ones) from beyond space and time who one day ruled this Earth, and who may someday awaken from their slumber to rule again. They are not dead but dreaming. They sleep only until the stars align to signify that the house of scorpious reveals the handler of the Leviathan.

In summary it is important to note that if anyone tells you that the Necronomicon is a purely satanic grimoire they are incorrect. If they tell you that you will die from reading it, they are incorrect. If you read it then you will know that the only “satanic” part of the book would be the revelation of the entities that had a hand in our creation and the entities that we can summon for our certain destruction. This is contrary to mainstream Christian belief

Anyone reading a heretical or blasphemous grimoire would, according to these Christian beliefs, find themselves knocking at the gates of hell and would be damned for eternity. That is why the Necronomicon has a reputation as a book of evil that when read has the power to kill any faithful Christian. Some even believe that it influences people to kill. The Necronomicon was cited as an inspiration for the Vampire clan murderer Roderick Ferrell and the satanic ritual murder of a 13 year old girl in California. Glen Mason might have been inspired by the writings in the Necronomicon.

The Necronomicon is more than a grimoire. It could be considered historical, in that it relates circumstances that occurred before the creation of the human race. It illustrates a geographical area and describes entities and races human civilization cannot fathom and it is also a book of spells that can be used to summon non-human entities.

It tells us that there were older entities that had a hand in human creation. That while the Earth has intelligent life, there are other planets that have higher and more advanced life forms that can interact with human forms. That mortal man can channel the messages of these higher beings through ritual and magic incantation and evocation. They can also summon the aid of angels and demons for their own purposes and that these entities can be bound to earth by using certain words and phrases to compel them to do so.

It is also important to note that the Necronomicon is in reality an idea “in potentia” meaning that while most of what has been written applied to the past, the present is watching for its fulfillment by observing its profound message authenticate itself in the contemporary era. The work of the Necronomicon will be channeled yet again for future generations with applications and the refining of an enlightened generation that is not dead but dreaming.

  • Book of the dead, pages bound in human flesh
Feasting the beast, from the blood the words were said
I am unseen, dreamt the sacred passage aloud
Trapped in a dream of the necronomicon
Seven lords of an evil and fatal force
Levitate through the secret and ancient doors
    Unbegun, premenating bizarre
Swept away to the castle of Cantar
Seeking the tomb, tried to possess
    Immortal sleep, visions of death
Drank of the blood, water of life
Splendorous son, show me the sign
    You are dead
    Blanketing fear, unknown to man
    Demons appear, death they command
Dead by dawn, dead by dawn, dead by dawn
DEAD, BY, DAWN Dead by dawn, dead by dawn, dead by dawn
DEAD, BY, DAWN Dead by dawn, dead by dawn, dead by dawn
    DEAD, BY, DAWN
    Blasphermate me
We are what wars, and shall rule again
Dead by dawn, chanting death the ancient hymn
This is not real, I am not the chosen one
Trapped in a spell of necronomicon
Torted pain, in the palace of death
Recitate, through the passages I dreamt
    Dead, dead by dawn
    Dead, dead by dawn
