Syfy Plans More Para-Shows
There’s been hits – Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth for Syfy and a helluva lot of failures in the para-show genre. Remember Mary Knows Best? How about the hilariously ridiculous Paranormal Collector? Need we remind you about Ghost Hunters Academy and Legend Quest?
I’m going to keep watching and hoping they hit a sweet spot. I am pleased that they figured out that personality does count and Josh Gates is what sells DT, so they are giving him another show for in February, “Stranded.” In the show, they take people to a very remote haunted location, deck them up with cameras and let them freak out. Sounds a lot like “Fear” and “Scariest Places on Earth” shows.
Also, from the producers of Ghost Hunters, there is a new show, “Notorious Hauntings” coming out in the spring some time. They will cover Jack the Ripper, Dracula, and other really famous killing situations. Sounds fun if it’s done right. I hope they get to scan the documentary “Cropsey” for the proper technique for moodiness and mystery.
As well, “Ghost Mine” is coming out in January where they team up miners looking for gold in Oregon with paranormal investigators checking out the mines. Hmmm? I’m not sure I get this concept and I think they would have had more success with Bigfoot hunters joining the timber men on a reality show if they want to steal from concepts that already exist like “Gold Rush.”
For shits and giggles, a cool show is coming up on Syfy called Robot Combat League that will pit giant robots against each other in a fighting arena. Now, this sounds entertaining.
I predict that Josh’s show might do one season. The mining one will go CLANK! And, the notorious one might have a chance at another run if it’s done with adequate mood, atmosphere, and new info on these overworked histories.
