The Scole Experiments
The Scole Experiments chronicles the extraordinary results of a five-year investigation into life after death. At the beginning of 1993 four psychic researchers embarked on a series of experiments in the Norfolk village of Scole. The subsequent events were so astounding that senior members of the prestigious Society for Psychical Research asked to observe, test and record what took place.
Some of the evidence reported included writing on unopened Polaroid film, objects and lights materializing, spirits telling how to construction complicated devices, and personal info being provided about individuals.
It’s hard to come to any conclusions about the Scole Experiments. The claims are quite extraordinary and harken back to the times of the turn-of-the-century spiritualist’s movement that was basically a giant fraud. So, can those techniques provide materialization of objects and such? I can’t say. I have serious doubts, but I wasn’t there. This is the issue with any experiments like this; without serious meticulous documentation, none of us will ever know what really happened. No matter how much evidence a team accrues to prove the afterlife, it can all be fraudulent or acquired under questionable methods, so ultimately we cannot prove the afterlife. Yet.
I don’t give up hope on that, but I also think that someone needs to show a consistent ability to conjure up an interaction, more than likely by finding what means it uses to enter our physical world and make itself known. This will be done in a scientific lab and under great controls, not in someone’s basement during a seance. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary documentation. Although I’m very skeptical about these experiments, I do appreciate anyone trying to find a way to communicate or get reactions from the other side. Good try; questionable success.
