I literally laughed out loud when he said he used an AOL dial up account. He downloaded a huge super secret database….over AOL dial up?
Puhleeeze. This guy is lo-tech. For one, in a heist that big, you aren’t downloading files directly from the server to your laptop over dialup. Youd be shelled into a server with a bigger pipe to make the transfer quicker. Youd also want to kill any logs on any of the servers or hops you used. Youd also have not used a hardline connection, but rather a network card with programmable MAC address and multiple proxies. Once you got the files off their server and onto one you have full control over, youd be moving those files around to other servers multiple times before finally getting it to a place where you feel safe enough that you can download over a dial up connection.
