States Of Denial: The Tuskar Rock Incident And Other Mysteries

Dermot Butler & Carl Nally, Authors, Conspiracy Of Silence: UFOs In Ireland & States Of Denial: The Tuskar Rock Incident And Other Mysteries

(1) Can you share background about both of you, the authors of States Of Denial?

We have been involved in the research and investigation of the paranormal for over two decades. From an early age, we both read extensively on various aspects of the subject, watched countless hours of paranormal-themed documentaries, etc. By the mid 1990s we both found ourselves as committee members of a Dublin-based research group, which gave us access to a wealth of information from witnesses coming forward to tell of bizarre encounters they’d had with various unexplained phenomena. Ghosts, poltergeists and religious apparitions were reported to us on a regular basis. We were also aware of the vast amount of UFO incidents being reported globally, and of encounters, specifically, between pilots and unidentified flying objects (UFOs). We founded our own organization, UPRI (UAP and Paranormal Research Ireland) in 1998.

In writing our first book, Conspiracy Of Silence: UFOs In Ireland (Mercier Press 2006), we published many of these accounts. Of particular interest, given the scorn displayed by the press and officialdom towards the subject, was the stark fact that professional pilots, into whose hands millions of people place their lives every year, were reporting strange phenomena in the sky – and their superiors believed their accounts. Otherwise, surely, they would have been taken off flying duties! Of course, the ‘elephant in the room’ for officialdom is the radar corroboration of such incidents. With this supporting evidence, the reality of UFOs – whatever they are – simply cannot be denied. Or ignored.
Further in-depth research into reported strange activities taking place in our skies resulted in our second book, also published by Mercier in 2013:  States Of Denial: The Tuskar Rock Incident And Other Mysteries.
The material we produce, which we have garnered from myriad sources, will allow the reading public to inform itself in regard to an array of paranormal events which their political masters continue to conceal in states of denial.

(2) What exactly is a UAP and what can you tell us about your organization UPRI (UAP & Paranormal Research Ireland), origins-wise?

The UAP acronym denotes Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, of which UFOs constitute a component. Other aspects of UAP include spatial displacements, magnetic anomalies, the mysterious disappearance of aircraft, the manifestation of strange ‘people’ on board passenger aircraft, and so forth.
Our organization’s origins are set out in Answer (1) above. We continue to maintain an investigative and research presence within each Irish county, and also have contacts globally.

(3) Who is Éamonn Ansbro, FRAS, and what did he have to say in your foreword for States Of Denial that can tell us about this journey?

Éamonn Ansbro is an astronomer, and is the director of Kingsland Observatory in Boyle, County Roscommon. He was a contributor to NASA’s successful Deep Impact program, which landed a probe on the Tempel 1 comet in 2005. Ansbro discovered a nova – Vulpecula – in 1976. He was the co-discoverer of a hydrogen envelope around Saturn’s rings, and in 1975 he detected moonquakes which were later verified by NASA. He has a keen interest in the subject of unidentified aerial phenomena. His involvement in the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI), and his dedicated research into the Search for Extra Terrestrial Visitation (SETV) projects, have raised the eyebrows of many of his peers. At Kingsland, he has designed and built his own telescopes, which have included a one-meter robotic system which was reported as the largest operation telescope in Britain and Ireland. Observation time on his equipment has been remotely accessed and used by universities around the world. A rooftop detection array which he designed and fabricated – the Kingsland Imaging System – analyzes the spectrum of unknown airborne objects crossing its field of view, in an attempt to achieve a better understanding of their methods of propulsion. In figures released to the authors on 22 March 2011, the all-sky camera system had, by that time, detected the following: 5,315 fixed-wing aircraft, 152 helicopters, 282 passes of the ISS, 328 Iridium satellites, 4,162 passes of other satellites, and 3,182 meteors. There were also 26 fireballs.
Some anomalies did accrue over time, though. There were 27 unknown objects, of which 4 were seen to dart about the sky. No fewer than 5 incidents of fast-moving, cigar-like objects occurred, while 4 bright, circular constructs were also picked up. On 2 occasions, what were described as ‘multiple objects’ in the sky were captured by the system. Indeed, on 5 occasions, unidentified groups of objects were ‘squaring’ into formations in the sky.
In his foreword, Ansbro points out that throughout history it’s been difficult – even impossible – to promote the acceptance of new discoveries. But in the last 200 years there’s been an explosion of new cures, theories, techniques and inventions that have revolutionized aviation, space travel, communications, medicine and warfare. Most of them, of course, were deemed ‘impossible’. Many scientific misjudgements have been made in the past, as well as occasional resistance towards accepting the veracity (or lack thereof) of observed, scientific / physical phenomena. He also says that the authors, two well-known researchers of the paranormal, argue that the same problems apply to the topics discussed in the book. He states that the authors offer compelling accounts that physical objects, with flight characteristics not yet achievable through known technology, are active in many mysterious events in our skies. The book presents ‘irrefutable evidence’ that UAP – which are seemingly able to maneuver in ways that defy the laws of physics – actually exist.
UAP and other mysteries seem like tangible, mocking proof that the universe is a much stranger place than humanity, with its dogmatic ‘consensus reality’, wants to accept. There are millions of people around the world who have had strange experiences that no one can yet explain, because such experiences, such phenomena, defy explanation by the rules of physics that we take for granted. This book details these experiences and phenomena, despite the media, scientific and governmental states of denial.

(4) Okay, what exactly happened at Tuskar Rock?

The Tuskar Rock incident – which occurred on 24 March 1968 – was and remains Ireland’s worst ever air disaster. Sixty-one passengers and crew perished on that Sunday morning, when an Aer Lingus Viscount aircraft, the Saint Phelim – serial EI-AOM – plunged into the Irish Sea off the south-eastern coast.

(5) What were the reactions from the authorities and the media regarding the incident?

It was rumored in the media that a British target drone, or a Sea Dart surface-to-air missile, had struck Flight 712, causing it to crash north-east of Tuskar Rock, in the Irish Sea.  The Irish government had meetings with the UK authorities, who flatly denied the involvement of their armed forces in the incident. An investigation report was produced by the Irish government in June 1970. At the time, only twenty pages were released to the media for public consumption.

(6) Why has the Tuskar Rock case remained unsolved?

It remains unsolved because it later transpired that the 1970 report was wholly inadequate, and was flawed in many aspects. Two further probes/reviews were conducted and published, one in 2000 and the second, for which a panel of vastly experienced international aviation experts was commissioned by the Irish government, was published in 2002. We obtained a copy of each of the three reports, which totaled hundreds of pages and weighed in at over seven pounds…..which yielded a whole lot more data than the derisory twenty pages originally made public. It remains unsolved because of the paranormal events that were involved in the demise of the Viscount.
The aircraft’s route was to fly from Cork to London. The evidence we accrued from the reports shows clearly that it flew two different routes – simultaneously.  One route involved a direct track from Cork to the Strumble beacon in Wales. It is evident from the taped radio contacts between the aircraft and Cork, Shannon and London ATC (air traffic control) that it had definitely flown along this route. However, almost fifty eye witnesses gave statements to the investigating authorities that the aircraft had NOT flown that route, and had, instead, in the same timeframe, been flying erratically at low altitude over the south-eastern corner of Ireland, before crashing north-east of Tuskar Rock. When an emergency was called that the aircraft was missing, the Royal Navy was sent to the last reported point that London ATC had received by radio from EI AOM, which was just west of the Strumble Beacon. Three witness statements declared that they had observed the Saint Phelim plunge into the sea, sending up a huge spout of water, north-east of Tuskar Rock. This is where the aircraft’s wreckage, and bodies were located the following day.
This enigma has never been explained. The Irish government’s official stance is: ‘case closed’.

(7) This is a wildcard question. What else would you like to share with our readers from your book?

That the high strangeness that occurred in the Tuskar Rock incident has occurred elsewhere. We examine the strange cases of aircraft involved in paranormal events in various areas around the world. One of these areas is the Great Lakes.
The authors examine the bizarre cases of unidentified aerial craft interfering with the launch codes of nuclear missiles in both the US and the former Soviet Union, where, in 1982, one incident almost triggered a global nuclear war.
We also detail cases in which law enforcement helicopters in Britain and Ireland have had encounters with UFOs.
The sighting of UFOs firing laser-like beams has become a worldwide phenomenon. Ireland is no exception. We examine, in depth, a case in which an Irish police officer videoed a huge, triangular shape in the sky above him, which proceeded to fire a red, laser-type beam at the ground. (Note: this footage can be accessed via Youtube, or on our website. See details after Answer 9).

(8) What are some of the other mysteries discussed in you book that you think the audience might find interesting?

The work by T. Roy Dutton and Éamonn Ansbro in developing the Astronautical Theory. This is a system by which they can track UFOs coming into the atmosphere and also leaving the planet along pre-designated orbital tracks. They have had an amazing success rate of over 80%.

(9) What are you up to next, book-wise, and any links you would like to share?

We are nearing completion of our third book, which involves the strange enigma of animal mutilations. Worldwide cases are discussed. Our focus of research and investigation over the past several years, however, has predominantly centered on a farm in Ireland, on which almost six hundred sheep and lambs have been subjected to the clinical, surgical removal of specific body parts since the early 1990s.
