(Before It's News)

William Kidd was hung by the neck until he was dead at Execution Dock on the Thames River in England. His body was then taken down and he was put in an iron cage and wrapped in chains like in the above photo at Tilbury Point as a warning to other people that they would suffer the same fate if they took up being a pirate.

A few months after Captain Kidd was hung up at Tilbury Point his body was taken down and dipped in tar to keep the birds from eating him. It was feared that the birds would eat him completly and he would fall away to nothing. It is said according to legend that he groaned when he was dipped in tar and it is said he cursed the people who were dipping his body in tar to wander in hell forever when they died. At this point he had been dead for months.

But the people who applied the tar did such a good job that the body of William Kidd hung there in the chains and in the iron cage for years. Many people over the years have claimed to see Captain Kidd still hanging there and some claim to hear insane laughter and cursing to come from the body they see hanging there. His ghost is also seen in other places.
