The Big One

THE BIG ONE

When it comes to conversations about earthquakes there seems to be a bit of apathy about them because it seems that the warning of the big one is usually a ploy by the mainstream media to reel you in for ratings.

I do know the reality that earthquakes are continuous on this planet. According to figures provided by author Michael Crichton, we have a million and a half of them every year, or three every minute. We see magnitude 5 quakes every six hours, a major quake every 3 weeks. They usually happen right on schedule and the reality is that while we see small earthquakes happen all the time, the event of high magnitude quakes in populated areas are on the increase and their intensity have also increased.

A week ago, I thought it was appropriate to open the dialogue about earthquakes. In a meeting with my staff a week prior, I had told them that I was noticing some things about the Earth that was challenging my cynicism about opening the dialogue about the big one coming to the Pacific coast.

I was noticing a pattern of sorts as I was watching the map and I could see minor quakes happening from Alaska to Baja, California.

As far back as the end of January, I was made aware of a request made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for security, ambulance support and medical team support for Region X. The request, however, was withdrawn within 10 days for modifications.

The request was changed to include tent facilities for housing, 10,000 winter shirts and pants for both adults and children. It also requested bus transportation to tent facilities. The only thing that I could determine was that FEMA was preparing for either a tsunami or an earthquake.

Regardless of how apathetic you may be about earthquakes, seismologists are now seriously preparing for the ‘big one’ and other seismologists are sending out warnings that there is something that is happening under the Earth that will most certainly change the way we view earthquake activity.

Several years ago I wrote a presentation where I had noted that the Earth’s rising base frequency or “heartbeat,” was rising dramatically. As noted by Gregg Braden and the ‘Schumann Resonance’: “Though it varies among geographical regions, for decades the overall measurement was 7.8 cycles per second. This was once thought to be a constant; global military communications developed on this frequency. Recent reports set the rate now at over 11 cycles, and climbing. Science doesn’t know why, or what to make of it.

There also seems to be a force pulling on the Earth that can be detected and has been written about for decades and still there is no word on whether or not this could mean danger for human beings.

While Earth’s “pulse” rate is rising, her magnetic field strength is declining. According to a study from the University of New Mexico, the field has lost up to half its intensity in the last 4,000 years. This decline can cause all kinds of changes in the natural order of things. Plants and animals will show the effects first and then man will begin to become unstable. The effects from such a magnetic shifts have been recorded thousands of years ago. Reports of earthquakes, floods, volcanic activity are beginning to increase in frequency and magnitude.

Science is just scratching the surface with regard to magnetic waves and their effects on the Earth. There has been commentary being tossed around about effects of solar winds and the threats of space lightning creating all sorts of chaos not seen since the dawn of man.

The only problem is that man did not have the demands on the communication and electronic grids as he does now. Immense solar tsunamis can cause a global communications blackouts. Solar storms can permanently damage critical electronic components of communication satellites and the increase of radiated energy could kill people during regular commercial flights.

The magnetic changes on the planet could explain why various fault lines and volcanoes are apparently waking up.

The biggest area to see an increase of activity is along the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’. As noted by TheEconomicCollapseBlog.com: “Approximately 75 percent of all the volcanoes in the world are on the Ring of Fire, and approximately 90 percent of all global earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.” Seismologists have been watching the Ring of Fire very closely as we have seen increased activity happening there. Now, how you interpret information about seismic activity and whether or not you choose to panic or prepare is up to you.

However, it is time to face some facts. The recent spate of earthquake activity in California, Washington, Yellowstone and Oregon should be a warning that changes are going to be happening in the near future.

The 5.1 earthquake that shook La Habra California last Friday was the worst earthquake the city has had in almost 30 years. Following that quake there were at least 100 moderate aftershocks. A 4.1 rocked California on Saturday, and scientists are hoping that this will put an end to the activity for a while. Other seismologists aren’t as optimistic as it occurred along the Puente Hills fault line. According to one seismologist, this is the fault line that would be most likely to put Los Angeles into the ocean and not the San Andreas Fault. The fact these quakes are shallow also is of concern.

Robert Graves of CalTech at a press conference stated that, “We have to analyze that to make sure of the exact depth but it is relatively shallow. Earthquakes in California tend to be deeper than that so it’s a little bit anomalous.

Graves said that there was a five percent chance that the quake was a precursor to a stronger quake.

As the Daily Mail reported: “On March 17, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles basin and was centered 15 miles west-northwest of the downtown civic center, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The reported damage was slight according to authorities.

Experts said that the earthquakes occurred on the Puente Hills thrust fault, which stretches from the San Gabriel Valley to downtown Los Angeles.

Last night’s quake was shallow, which ‘means the shaking is very concentrated in a small area,’ said Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson.

Hauksson revealed that the earthquake was unusual because the 5.1 quake was preceded by the weaker foreshock.

Scientists such as Hauksson are very concerned about the Puente Hills fault because it runs directly under downtown Los Angeles.

‘This is the fault that could eat L.A.,’ seismologist Sue Hough told The LA Times in 2003.

Prior to the quakes in Los Angeles, we can’t ignore the stories of at least 100 cluster quakes happening at Government Camp, Oregon, near Mount Hood. There was a 5.1 off the coast of Oregon and a major landslide that wiped out the entire town of Oso, Washington. A 1.1 magnitude earthquake occurred right behind the site where the landslide occurred but USGS has denied that it had anything to do with the slide that has now decimated Oso.

As the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reported: “The seismic signals (ground vibrations) generated by the motion of the Oso landslide were very well recorded by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), indicating it was a very rapid and energetic event… Not all landslides generate strong seismic signals observable at large distances. The event must be large and energetic for the resulting seismic waves to be observable tens to hundreds of km away.

During the month of March, there have also been some other very unusual geologic events that have been happening in the Northwest.

Examiner.com noted that before the Oso tragedy: “Two large landslides – one in the Columbia River Gorge dumped about 2,000 cubic yards of rock and debris on highway I84 just 3 miles west of the Hood River, and another blocked US30 near Portland. Loud booms and ground shaking reported by people from Lincoln to Tillamook Counties; some reported hearing a rumble, as well (No earthquakes recorded by the USGS in the area at the time.)

A week prior to all of the seismic chaos we invited Charlotte King to comment on the various seismic activities and how the human body reacts. We were able to take phone calls from listeners in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma complaining of dizziness and nausea. “Over the past month, there have been more than 130 earthquakes in the state of Oklahoma. This is highly unusual.

Charlotte indicated that what she was sensing was an increase of earthquake intensity in Chile, Peru and the entire Pacific coast. After her appearance on the show there was a 6.3 magnitude quake in Peru. Throughout the month of March there were hundreds of quakes being reported in clusters around the region. There was also the report of seismic chaos in northern Chile. They report being hit by by more than 300 quakes in over a period of 7 days, and again TheEconomicCollapseBlog.com said, “41 of those earthquakes were stronger than magnitude 4.5.

Charlotte King also expressed concern about Yellowstone. The truth is that there were 25 earthquakes in Yellowstone prior to the 4.8 quake that hit there on Sunday, March 30, 2014. TheEconomicCollapseBlog.com said: “Scientists recently discovered that the Yellowstone supervolcano is now releasing far more helium gas than they had anticipated.” This is amazing since some seismologists declared that the supervolcano in Yellowstone, in all probability, will not erupt in a way that has been depicted in disaster movies like ’2012′.

I think it is wise not to push that panic button just yet, especially when this could be just the Earth letting off a little steam. Minor quakes are far more welcomed then having the surprise of the ‘big one’ erupting and causing the populace to fall into chaos.

However, as we are seeing preparations being made and warnings going out, it is best to err on the side of caution and be prepared for anything that may happen – including the Big One, which has been predicted for some time. The only problem is getting beyond our earthquake apathy and being aware of our surroundings and how we are feeling prior to any and all catastrophic events.
