Date: October 1975 Time: night
Independent witnesses encountered what was described as a fearsome winged gargoyle-like creature that at one time was seen perched on a tree and was later seen perched on a roof of a house. It had huge gray wings and was able to glide silently without flapping its wings. It was taller than …a man and had a very wide upper torso. It also has a 15 ft wingspan and dwarfed a nearby eucalyptus tree as it flew over it. Around the same time another Oakland man—this time a janitor named Minelli—claimed he saw a strange winged creature as he was taking out the garbage one evening. He had looked up and seen the frightful entity perched on the corner of the roof, looking down at him “like some fearsome gargoyle.” Minelli described the thing as being much taller than a man and very broad across its upper torso. “It was such an impossibly monstrous thing,” he said. “I was afraid to say anything about it because everybody would think I was crazy…it must have been a bird, unless it was the Devil himself.”
