77 Thousand Mysterious Clips Uploaded to YouTube – Why?

May 3 2014

Are these messages to try to contact UFO’s? Is it a terror plot; secreted messaging? Strange & bizarre or dangerous?

Why did Webdriver Torso upload 77k videos to YouTube lasting 11 seconds showing red & blue boxes & playing computer-generated tone. What do these secret YouTube messages mean?

More than 77,000 strange clips – all showing a variety of red and blue boxes and playing computer-generated tone – have been uploaded to YouTube over the past nine months.

Their creator used the login Webdriver Torso, but has not responded to requests to explain the material.

It has prompted speculation about what the clips are about and theories include the idea that the uploads could be secret message swapped between spies, a piece of web-testing software gone rogue or even an attempt to communicate with aliens.

BBC Click TV decided to investigate, and uncovered a previously undisclosed French connection.

The mysterious 11-second sequence of red and blue rectangles could easily have been lost, unexplained and unappreciated among YouTube’s plethora of kittens and music videos.

But 28 minutes later Webdriver uploaded an almost identical video, and another an hour after that, and another, until eight months later – apparently happy with nearly 80,000 clips – they fell silent, with 236 hours of video to their name.

Almost all of the uploads follow the same pattern – 10 slides, each with a red rectangle, a blue rectangle and a computer-generated tone.

The shapes change size and the notes change pitch. Each video appears to be unique, but the format stays the same. Read more

  • Interesting video but I see you still managed to squeeze god in.

    • yeah, its horrible.
She’s not talking about god though.

      • After 47 years of it, I’ve just about had it up to here with religion,.Your like the looky looky men you meet on holiday trying to sell you their trinkets. No matter how many times you politely say ‘no thank you’ they have to keep on and on until yo snap and smash their skull in with a fake Rolex and spend two years in a Spanish jail. Enjoy your religion, just keep it to yourself, the queues will be shorter in heaven, think about it, more room to spread your angel wings, you know it makes sense.

      • How did we get from maybe an attempt by someone to reach aliens to a possible invasion by the French?

And then to it’s the end of the World and we need to run to God to save us?

Maybe we should take a logical look at this:

If it means the end of the World is near, do we want to run to God to save us? After all, the last time the World was destroyed (only Noah and family were saved) it was God or a God that brought it down on us!

And the next fear is that the French are going to attack us? Does that even need a reply? OK, I’ll try to think of one when I finish rolling on the floor in laughter.

Now we need to be concerned because aliens are receiving secret messages from humans. Do you really think they pay any attention to YouTube? If they are into our social media, than we could just reach them on FaceBook, it would be easier.

From the info I’ve seen, if someone wanted to send a message to the aliens, they can be reached in one of those caverns under Dulce Base in New Mexico!

    • should she have said allah?

      • No, the story has no link to any god keep it that way and be taken seriously. Adding whatever god to any argument or thought is getting boring. Why don’t they put a little embalm pertaining to their chosen imaginary friend in the title and then we would all know where we stood. I don’t get to read a lot of good stories as I press x as soon as religion is brought in to the conversation, we are both losing out.

  • It was just his program, but He was paid. The program is to plant cookies. Not the good kind. So it was “nicked” from transmitting the rest.

    • Ah, interesting, thank you.

  • if the French are behind some diabolical plot to take over we are all screwed… no seriously, the French like to screw as many as possible, literally

    Googled “Matei.”
First return is a computer programmer who is quite smart, and has been to Paris. Maybe someone should ask him.

  • Who cares.
Just another annoyance to the masses, if it beeps, it beeps.
