5-year old Hector Abarca Estay, a polio patient, was sent to the house of Elsa Rojas in order to pick up some bread for his family. He was last seen leaving Rojas’s house with a clear plastic bag filled with bread, and slightly limping from his right leg as a result of the polio. According to the local farmers at the …same time a strange fog or mist was seen descending over the area, covering the fields. Hector’s family waited for him until hours passed and everyone became worried as to his whereabouts. The local police was immediately notified and a group of detectives from nearby Nuñoa led by Sergio Rozas was dispatched to the region to conduct a thorough search. According to the locals, “every stone was lifted up” in order to find Hector. But Hector Abarca Estay was never found. The case remains open. A local peasant, Genoveva Zuñiga de Dotte, 60, reported seeing a strange white object flying over the region headed towards the Cordillera. It carried a very strong orange light, and hovered briefly above her house before resuming its flight. The local farmers always connected the appearance of this strange object with the strange disappearance of Hector Abarca.
