Explorer and mountaineer Reinhold Messner is famous for making the first solo ascent of Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen. During a hike in 1986 in the Himalayas, Messner had an encounter that he could never forget. He witnessed a “special bear” that sometimes walking on fours and sometimes two legs. The foot prints looked exactly like what early Yeti researchers described. He believes this “special” kind of bear could be what the natives are referring to as the Yeti.
