For the longest time, I have reported strange things in the news and have also stated for the record that there are many things in this world that happen and where science religion cannot give us answers and so they deliberately ignore stories because of how uncomfortable they are. Human behaviors at times are hard to understand and in times where all it appears that all hope is lost some of the most macabre things transpire that do not have exact answers and so we see the behavior as parapsychological behavior.
A few months ago “The cinnamon challenge” once captivated the viral video lovers, but it seems things have escalated. The cinnamon challenge was simply people eating straight cinnamon without choking to death, however now it is not enough to choke on cinnamon and try not to die, the challenge is in lighting oneself a blaze and hoping you are fireproof .
The new fad now is the fire challenge on the internet where young people will set fire to themselves while someone will record it on smart phone. The result winds up on You tube and many of the participant have wound up in the hospital with severe burns.
A teenager was seriously injured after lighting himself on fire attempting the “challenge” that’s been popping up across the Internet.
After seeing videos of “the fire challenge” on Facebook and YouTube, a 15-year-old Kentucky boy poured alcohol on his chest and lit it on fire. He suffered second-degree burns. Various videos on YouTube show some people getting the fire out before any serious damage occurs, but others end up screaming in agony.
A Buffalo, New York teen reportedly died earlier last month after trying to beat the ‘fire challenge.’
A You Tube search for “fire challenge” garners pages and pages of results with titles like “Fire Challenge Gone Wrong! Teen almost burned to Death” and “Fire Challenge Fail!” — as if there could be a “win.” Seeing friends post their own videos on Facebook gives teens the feeling that everyone is doing it and that maybe they should do it too.
Psychologists are saying that the reason this is happening is because young people are now seeking thrills that require a high level of stimulation. They are no longer satisfied with music, video games and movies. The frequency of hype reality is no longer enough for young people and so the challenge is in just how close they can come to dying without really dying.
This brings new meaning to the term suicidal adolescence.
It was Aldous Huxley that postulated that in the Brave new World of the future that we would be bombarded with so much stimulation that people would be reduced to passivity and in order to be thrilled or even shocked there would have to be stimulation so intense that it would have to render the person close to near death or even to experience the feeling of dying to know true intense stimulation.
Huxley also prophesied that in the future it would be more difficult to start a revolution because what would not be taken into account is how easy it will be to distract the person of the future.
In the book 1984 Orwell believed that pain would be enough to motivate people into doing the bidding of the hierarchy while Huxley believed that pleasure would eventually would be found in the pain that would be inflicted by our masters.
In a time where warfare is not limited to how many body bags wind up in mass graves, we also need to be aware of the casualties that turn up in the middle of a Psychological war.
It is much harder now to recognize the dangers of our warlike lifestyle and pointing out the consequences are much worse we can write off a bunch of teenagers setting themselves on fire as casualties in Darwin’s waiting room or we can see it for what it truly is , and what it will eventually mean to all of us.
In the wars we are fighting, in the wars and the bloodshed we encourage like the war between Israel and Hamas, or the ever present hate we are creating for Russia we forget that the psychological impact doesn’t kill you, it just little by little makes us all a little brain dead and eventually many people find themselves turning into farm animals content in being just part of the herd.
When Huxley received his copy of 1984 from George Orwell he was pleased to comment on it. He wrote Orwell this letter:
Within the next generation I believe that the world’s rulers will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience. In other words, I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare of a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency. Meanwhile, of course, there may be a large scale biological and atomic war — in which case we shall have nightmares of other and scarcely imaginable kinds.
As you can see Huxley knew of the political efficacy of the use of atomic weapons and perhaps biological warfare as a motivator for change. He knew that when these tools are used then all things that make up our normalcy bias change and we all begin to take that step into being moiré dependent on the government to save us from the very peril that they of course created.
For proper context on Aldous Huxley one has to keep in mind that his brother was an ardent eugenicist and laid the foundations for the Transhumanist movement. As founder of the UN’s UNESCO, Julian Huxley articulated its agenda here:
“Taking the techniques of persuasion and information and true propaganda that we have learnt to apply nationally in war, and deliberately bending them to the international tasks of peace, if necessary utilizing them, as Lenin envisaged, to “overcome the resistance of millions” to desirable change…”
It is obvious that if young people are so pliable that they are able to be coerced into playing a game of self immolation in order to get attention then who knows what else may be the next fad?
The craziness here is that the fad of setting one’s self on fire should be a hard sell… now it is easy to convince young people to do it for attention and stimulation.
Now kids are setting fire to themselves and adults are just crazy when it come to war and the division that we are experiencing every day.
What is crazier than someone taking their politics too personally, or to a level that is so hard lined that there can be no compromise or common ground? How easy of sell is it to praise the bloodletting in Gaza as 1300 people are slaughtered and no one wishes to be held accountable and want to take sides in a slaughter that has been going on for centuries?
War mongers know exactly what buttons to push to guarantee that war will continue, and there are plenty of psychopaths willing to believe that war is the best way to take care of the problems of overpopulation and differences of belief.
It is easy for any government to create a power gathering creep that they can compare to Hitler. Our government is notorious for doing that, after all we have seen it happen from the rise of Saddam Hussein to Vladimir Putin.
Propaganda certainly happens in war. And death counts are notoriously hard to pin down. However, regardless of the death count, the thought alone of knowing that we as a country had a hand in cheering on slaughter puts our sanity into question.
It is as if criminality can be erased and thrown out of the argument if it committed on grander scale. One murder or two are prosecuted in a court of law, but mass murder and slaughter can be praised and treated like a football game.
To put things into perspective, let’s suppose my neighbor threatens me. So I go and burn down his house killing him and his whole family. When the neighborhood watch group comes to my home and asks why I did it I tell them that my neighbor was beating his wife and so in order to save the family I had to kill them all.
Of course none of that would be seen as a reason to kill an entire family and so I would have to fight others in the neighborhood until I can find others that see it my way. I would have a hard time finding anyone who would see it my way and I would be tried and jailed for my madness.
We mourn the loss of a family that is found dead in a suburban sprawl, victims of domestic violence, but when thousands of families are killed in a country whose name we cannot pronounce we turn it into political fodder, and flesh and bone become a reason to display hatred and demands for vengeance without any need for calm or even civility.
The country, our country has now allowed the terror threat to infiltrate from all political parties and from all religious denominations. While there are many Americans that truly see the moral decay, it is for some unwise to point out how foolish we have all become.
Marcus Tullius Cicero the great Roman philosopher and politician once stated
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”
What Cicero said in 58 B.C. can be applied to what is happening today in the United States. If one cannot see that the terrorists have infiltrated many of the high places in government now, then perhaps they are asleep or in denial.
There is no reason to have a political ideology be so personal that you cannot see he criminality of those in power.
The time of the left /right paradigm needs to end and a new philosophy needs to rise from the ashes of all that has been destroyed.
If we look at Cicero, Orwell and Huxley we see men that predicted are profound tragedies for the human species. Tragedies that could be avoided only if we stopped supporting fraud within our government.
This should stand as a warning to everyone that if we operate in deliberate ignorance or denial of fraudulent government we will continue to see a system built upon the bodies of the innocent and governed by criminals.
If we cannot stop ourselves from self harm we will be witnessing more legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, wherein the government becomes the biggest form of organized crime, controlled by the best organized gang of criminals.
The final solution would then be applied.
Very well written and eye opening. kudos.
Fantastic. My teens are reading your article and totally relating to the concept of constant entertainment and are shocked at the revolting fire-setting craze.
Many thanks.
