Erick Cervanted an amateur cameraman captured the precise moment an intense lightning strike hit just feet away from in Cotulla in Texas on May 15, 2015.
He emphasized that happily there were no deaths or injuries to regret.
A typical cloud to ground lightning flash culminates in the formation of an electrically conducting plasma channel through the air in excess of 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) tall, from within the cloud to the ground’s surface.
The actual discharge is the final stage of a very complex process. It can reach temperatures of roughly 30,000 kelvins (53,540 degrees Fahrenheit). The sun, on the other hand, its surface temperature is just 6,000 kelvins (10,340 degrees Fahrenheit).
This shows the importance of having proper Lightning Protection as outlined in the National Electrical Code.
