Sunday Bun by L. A. Marzulli I Hate Halloween – Cultural Push-back
1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 1Timothy 4
I was at a car wash near where I live and they had turned part of it into a haunted house. I prayed against it as I walked through it and was going to comment to the manager but he was busy, so I passed.
When we were in Atlanta last week at the Conference with Chief Joseph and Dr. Lauralynn Riverwind, Pastor Caspar McCloud and Paster Bill Flynn we drove by house after house that has spent who-knows-how-much-money on fake tombstones, spiders webs, coffins, and other ghoulish paraphernalia.
There are zombie houses, haunted houses, spook joints, ghost-hay-rides, and commercial haunted houses where the participants pay to get scared. Who are these people and why are they obsessed with a day that honors the father of lies, Satan?
Why are these misguided people honoring, dead bodies, vampires, ghouls, werewolves, zombies, Frankenstein—which terrified me as a kid—murders reenacted in the most horrific of ways, blood, gore, and violence?
Think about it for a moment, who is it that promises, to come and rob, kill and destroy? Who is it that these people are honoring? Why has this day become almost as big as Christmas?
Some people will try to tell me that I’m reacting to much to this. Others will say it’s all in “good fun.” Really?
In my opinion, the verse below is pertinent, timely and being fulfilled right before our eyes.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
If Halloween is not the doctrine of devils I don’t know what is. Then there are the real-life covens, witches and warlocks, real life wanna-be-vampires who drink blood, and Goths who dress in black and look like they are going to an ongoing funeral that never ends. To sum it up these people are celebrating death, destruction, depravity, and they honor their father who, as scripture tells us, was a murderer from the beginning. John 8: 44
I hate this day. I deplore the costumes and haunted houses that advertise a month or so in advance. I would also put forward that celebrating this day and engaging in these activities may open a person to the demonic realm. (see link above) Ouija boards last year were the number one purchased “toy” for the youngsters.
In closing todays Bun. I would posit that this day and the overt celebration of it, which seems to get bigger every year, may be a barometer of how spiritually lost our nation has become. Days of Chaos? You bet…
