The Houska Castle, dated back to 13th Century is no ordinary Castle.
According to history, the castle was built over a bottomless pit with known horror findings even including Nazi SS guards overtaking the castle conducting their own experiments on there before they too fled in terror from the Russians and Americans.
It has been reported that eventually a duke of the powerful Dubá clan, in order to discover the secret behind the mysteries of the supposed gateway to Hell, offered a condemned prisoner a full pardon for his crimes if he would complete just one task: he had to consent to being lowered down into the bottomless pit on the end of a rope and to report back on what he found there. To this the man readily agreed but once he had descended down into the opening for quite some distance there came a long period of silence and then the convict began screaming uncontrollably from deep within the ground.
When the duke’s men pulled the convict back to the surface, they found that his hair had turned completely white and he was stark raving mad. He died soon after.
Some accounts claim that this experiment was repeated more than once with the same results each time.
There was even some guy in the 1830′s that killed some other guy and then had a dream there and his dream transported him to Prague 2006, he said something about seeing “moving pictures in small casket” which could have been a cell phone or portable TV and or laptop. No offense, but I visited Hrad Houska several times and the only authentic photo on this page is that first one
What about that second photo with big hole and a climber? that is certainly not from houska – just another nonsense, western culture just like to make a mountain of a mole-hill
So, here I will state more precisely some thigs:
1. Americans were not in this area at that time (because Russians “claimed” right to “liberate” these countries)
2. That hypotetical entrance to underworld (so called PEKLO – dated from ancient slavic culture, something like underworld for you westerners; we have myths about inner earth instead – i think it is just another interpretation of hell or underworld) was sealed when castle was constructed – entrance should be hidden under the central chapel, that was main purpose of this castle according to actual castellan
3. We have heard another version of this story on one of the tours. That prisoner was supposed to explore a breach in the rocks not far from the castle (not to descend into pit) and when he returned, he was an old man. It was only one prisoner, and they did not repeated it again with another one. There is really very unusual cave around 15 mins on foot from castle, which is walled off by some boulder – or better say “door”, becase it is very sophisticated and able only to open from inside – maybe greater mystery than castle alone
4. That “another guy” who entered this breach in 19th century 30′ when it was still unsealed (again, according to tour commentaries) was Karel Hynek Mácha, the second and only man who left that cave. Many others that entered never left. He left some letters that proves he was in another dimension or other time, but all the same it should be just a fairytale as many others.
You should set off there too, it is not so far from Prague, near Česka Lípa, very popular tourist spot, probably thanks to these legends.
