The Paiutes of the Death Valley area of California have an interesting legend of the “Hav-Musuvs.” These people were ancient of the Panamint Mountains area.
These giants were said to exist there when the land was not parched as it is now, but was lush and filled with water.
The legend said the Hav-Musuvs arrived by rowing ships to the Death Valley area. They lived up above the water in the caves atop the mountains and brought with them unusual things to trade. They were there a long while, but as the water began to dwindle, they began to use ships that could fly – silvery ones that were silent.
They moved deep into the mountains in caves, they rode the cliffs on strange white snowy animals.
From the legend – below -
Source: “’Have you ever seen a Hav-musuv?’
“’No, but we have many stories of them. There are reasons why one does not become too curious.’
“’Reasons?’
“’Yes. These strange people have weapons. One is a small tube which stuns one with a prickly feeling like a rain of cactus needles. One cannot move for hours, and during this time the mysterious ones vanish up the cliffs. The other weapon is deadly. It is a long, silvery tube. When this is pointed at you, death follows immediately.’
“’But tell me about these people. What do they look like and how do they dress?’
“’They are a beautiful people. Their skin is a golden tint, and a head band holds back their long dark hair. They dress always in a white fine-spun garment which wraps around them and is draped upon one shoulder. Pale sandals are worn upon their feet…’
If this extraordinary Native legend isn't enough, let's look at some folks in the earlier half of the 1900s who claimed to have found a cave system under the Panamint Mountains. These men, who likely had no knowledge of this obscure legend, managed to describe an interesting find within the miles of tunnels that might support the Hav-Musuvs legend.
In the book Death Valley Men by Bourke Lee, a man explained how he was poking around an old mine and fell through, landing into a giant hall of mummy soldiers. These powerful men were lined up in a chamber among all sorts of jewels and golden objects.
They had boulders that were hinged doors and heavy stone wheelbarrows to move the gold that were easy to move because of they were center balanced. They also utilized natural gas for lanterns down there.
It was the discoverer's assumption that these people had moved all their worldly things into this underground cavern and developed a city down there with great wealth.
Today, there is ongoing talk about a secret base under the Panamints. It would be a convenient place for one, in a most hostile environment where no one is going to move in, develop, or even venture except a few hardy people. If these caverns exist down there still, an already prepared location exists. Unless, of course, the Hav-Musuvs still claim it!
