Abandoned houses, unexplained disappearances, mutilated bodies, sightings of bigfoot creatures, Land Between the Lakes is an area along the Tennessee and Kentucky border that is filled with strange and creepy things. Definitely not a place you want to find yourself alone in after dark.
This is rather weird to me for a quite personal reason. I was camping at the area in LBL back in September. It was very isolated. It was evening and we were having a small campfire and in the woods directly behind our campsite we heard what sounded like one or two creatures walking around. It could have been raccoons. But it was very strange and eerie. It didn’t sound like scampering (or something low to the ground). It sounded like someone or “something” walking in large steps.
The noise was so pronounced that the person that was with me and I started making noises to scare away whatever or “whoever” it was. I really did think that it was not an animal. Also, the place where they were heard were up on a ridge in a very, very heavily wooded area. It was in the Autumn and you could hear leaves crunching.
It was so scary that it was kind of exciting in a profound sort of a way. I wouldn’t wish these creatures harm. Perhaps we could learn from them. Who knows ????
