What is an NDE?

 by

L. A. Marzulli

NDE is an abbreviation for Near death experience? The experience is actually more common than most of us think.
A simple explanation would be that a person undergoes some kind of trauma which then leads to their death.
People who experience this describe this, most of the time, in very vivid terms.
Here’s a cogent example.
One woman was in emergency surgery when suddenly she found herself floating above her own body. She could hear the doctors talking. She could see herself lying on the operating table. She then recalls going back into her body. When she awakened from he surgery, she amazed the doctors by telling them what they had been talking about.
That’s just for beginners because some people, like Howard Storm whom we interviewed for our Watchers series had a very intense journey that changed his life forever? But before we get to Howard let’s explore a few details.
There are people who do not believe in an afterlife. They believe that once we die we are finished, we don’t continue on, there is no consciousness after death… in short nothing. These are the atheist.
Then there are others of us, who are Christians who believe in the immortality of the soul. In other words, as the Biblical Prophetic Narrative states: We are born, live once, and then we face judgment.
Eastern religions, particularly Hinduism and Buddhism, believe in the concept of reincarnation; we are born and then when we die we come back again as a person, an animal or a bug, depending on the good works we accomplished or if we did actions which were evil!
Of course this goes against what the Bible teaches, as I will remind you the Bible tells we are born…. live once and then comes the judgement.
Hinduism and Buddhism put the onus of salvation on the individual person lifting themselves up by spiritual bootstraps and in essence saving themselves through good deeds.
In short, this is a works trip.
Let’s contrast this to Christianity which deals with the depravity of man and the idea of salvation, which is why we need a redeemer, a savior, someone who will pay the price not only for our depravity, our sin, but all mankind’s sin from the creation and our dwelling in paradise, in the garden to the present day.
So with that in mind, we must ask ourselves if there is a God and He has made himself known to us through his word, the prophets and finally His own son, Jesus, then what do we do with these NDE’s? Do we NOT talk about them because it may make some of us uncomfortable? Or, do we go to the source of our faith…. God’s word.
Once again when we go to the Bible we hear about the story of the rich man and Lazarus.
Most of us know the story.
EXPLAIN THIS
It seems clear that there is no reincarnation, that those who pass from this earth face judgment. I think we can rely on the veracity of this story.
But let’s examine the NDE phenomenon the near death experience, in detail. It would appear from those who have experienced this and come back to tell us, that just like the Bible tells us, there is an afterlife.
I’ll let you in a secret. When I was 21 years old I was very sick and was rushed to the hospital. I had a fever that was just under 106 degrees. I was laying on an ice blanket and that was the last thing I remember.
Then, I was outside my body and these two entities who I believe were angels came and got me and we went up.
I was shown several places that I did not want to stay in and finally I found myself in a verdant garden near a waterfall.
The color of the  flowers were unlike anything on earth and what’s more each flower was singing it’s own song. There were no people near me but I knew that people were close by.
Then, I had the sensation of falling. Three days later I awakened in the hospital.
Other people have seen the “waterfall” and perhaps have been to the same place I was taken but there’s no way to know for sure….
Others, however, have had what I would consider very detailed and in some cases disturbing NDE’s.
One account that we covered in our Watchers series was with Howard Storm. The back story to Howard’s NDE was this. He was a staunch atheist and an art teacher. He told me how he used to delight in shaking the faith of Christians who attended his class.
Howard was in France and became very, very ill. He lay in a hospital bed for hours without any medical aid. Finally something happened which changed his life forever.
Let’s examine what happened to Howard in this clip from our Watchers series. You will also hear from Dr. Jeffery Long, who has examined and cataloged NDE’s, for years now. He may be the worlds leading expert on the near death experience.
Travel with us as we explore the enigmatic phenomenon of Near, Death Experiences.
