Who is the Father of Lies?
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
I’m reading a novel by Roger Williams entitled, Broken Lies. It will soon be in our book store, as there’s a lot to be gleaned from it. It’s got me thinking and thus, this is the subject of todays Bun.
We know from scripture that Satan, the Devil, is the father of lies. There is no truth in him. Period. This statement, given to us by Jesus, reveals the character of The Fallen One. We also know that Satan is the ruler of this planet and he will continue to rule it until Jesus breaks the power of his reign by returning to earth, on a white horse, with the armies of heaven. (This is NOT fiction!)
I want to focus on one aspect of this and how it affects our life. You and I have been lied to, throughout the course of our lives. How many of us carry these lies around for years, perhaps even a lifetime, believing in them and never getting free of them. The enemy of our souls, will whisper these lies to us in the form of thoughts. He knows, far to well, how to do this and the lies he plants in us keep us in bondage, keeps us from being who we were meant to be. Then, there are the lies told to us by people we encounter. All in all, we can become a tangled mess.
You may have been told lies like, you’ll never amount to anything?
Your just like your father.
You can’t do that.
That’s just who you are, you’ll never change.
You were born this way. (Think the lie of being born gay here)
They don’t like you.
Your stupid and will never be able to learn.
Your not good enough.
You should never forgive that person because what they did to you was so wrong.
This list could continue almost endlessly but I think you get the point.
One of the dynamics of The Spirit of the Living God is to break the power of lies in our lives. He does this by revealing the lie to us and how it has affected us. He can do this in a variety of ways, often with a Bible verse, or a dream, or something someone says. Then He shows us how the lie has ensnared us and created a web of deceit around us.
The good news is, we can be free of the lies that are in our lives. We can see them for what they are, and break the power they have over us by the power of His spirit.
In closing todays Bun: My first mentor, Wayne Kendall used to say, Human beings are garbage dumps. This may sound like a harsh statement and the first time I heard it I was shocked by it. However, some of us hold on to the lies and these lies are like spiritual garbage.
Take the time to sit quietly and ask The Spirit of the Living God to show you the lies in your life. Ask Him to remove them. Ask to be set free. Then, give thanks to Him for, if the Son sets us free we are free indeed!
Prayer:
Our President, Donald J. Trump. No Weapon formed against him would prosper!
Jane – For healing from bitterness and anger and cancer.
Keith – Husband of Rose who passed away a while back. For peace during this time or mourning.
Russ – For total and complete healing. That God would send his healing angel to restore him.
Tammy – That there would no more cancer.
Annie – Whose husband, Rick passed away a while back. For peace during this time or mourning.
