Jail Records That Said Sandra Bland Was Suicidal Do Not Match
Sandra Bland died after being hanged in a Texas jail said. What happened to her is a matter of widespread controversy and debate.
The Illinois woman is said by police to have died of an apparent “self-inflicted asphyxiation.”
But the death, three days after her arrest after a minor traffic stop, has a number of anomalies about it that have led many of Bland’s friends and family to believe that she was murdered.
The police, for their part, claim that last week Bland told jailers that she had previously attempted suicide.
The Jail intake forms released last Wednesday report the answer of “yes” to the question regarding past suicide attempts.
But the problem is that the forms simply don’t match.
Skeptics, including NBC News are asking “If she really filled these out, why is there such bizarre discrepancies? These differences have many of Bland’s supporters questioning whether these forms were not in fact doctored.”
One form claims that Bland attempted suicide back in 2015.
Another handwritten form says this happened in 2014. The reason listed on both forms was “lost baby” and the method was “pills.”
But one form says “yes” in response to the question “Have you had thoughts of killing yourself in the last year,” but the other says “no.”
How could this be, since she filled these forms out on the same day? Did she forget so quickly? Or was the “yes” perhaps doctored after she was killed?
In both forms we fine the question, “Are you thinking about killing yourself today,” and quite clearly the answer on both is marked as “no.”
One of the forms says that she was “very depressed” in the past, “and felt that way on the day she was booked,” but the other says “no” to both questions.
If this doesn’t indicate tampering, then what would?
Cannon Lambert, an attorney representing the Bland family, told reporters Wednesday that no relatives had ever heard anything about a suicide attempt, nor Bland being treated for depression. They believe the forms have been tampered with by the police.
“We take issue with the notion that she was suffering from depression,” Lambert said.
It would seem that the proverbial plot has just thickened.
