CATALONIA VOTES TO ‘BREAK WITH SPAIN’! CATALAN PRO-INDEPENDENCE PARTIES WIN MAJORITY, EXIT POLL SHOWS

from Zerohedge:

Mas Trouble In Little Spain As Country Layers Constitutional Crisis Onto Economic Depression

Catalonia’s exit polls confirm over two-thirds of votes will go to pro-independence parties that will likely push for a referendum to break away from Spain, which the central government will challenge as unconstitutional. The more-populous-than-Denmark region is home to car factories and banks that generate one-fifth of Spain’s economic wealth (larger than Portugal’s). The incumbent, Artur Mas, has converted to a more radical separatist bias since huge street demonstrations in September showed the will of the people. As Reuters notes, growing Catalan separatism is a huge challenge for Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who is trying to bring down painfully high borrowing costs by persuading investors of Spain’s fiscal and political stability. Critically, the exit polls suggest the dominance of separatist parties will mean a referendum for secession within two years – leaving us asking the simple question: who will buy any Spanish debt, even fully backstopped by the ECB, if there is a real risk that in under two years, 20% of Spanish GDP will simply pick up and leave.

  • *CATALAN PRO-INDEPENDENCE PARTIES WIN MAJORITY, EXIT POLL SHOWS

Pro-Referendum/Separatists:

  • *CIU WINS 54-57 OF 135 SEATS IN CATALAN VOTE, EXIT POLL SHOWS (Separatist)
  • *ERC HAS 20-23 SEATS IN EXIT POLL BY TV3 (Separatist)
  • *ICV, which backs referendum, wins 10-12
  • *CUP, which backs independence, wins 5-6

Anti-Referendum

  • *PP HAS 16-18 SEATS IN CATALAN EXIT POLL
  • *SOCIALISTS HAVE 16-18 SEATS IN CATALAN EXIT POLL

Catalonia Flies Flag for Secession from Spain – WSJ

Oct 29, 2012

Many people in Catalonia, a province known as “the factory of Spain,” feel that the rest of the country has become an economic millstone. They’re pushing for an independent Catalonia. WSJ’s Matt Moffett reports from Barcelona.

Less than a week after a New Orleans suburbanite petitioned the White House to allow Louisiana to secede from the United States, petitions from seven states have collected enough signatures to trigger a promised review from the Obama administration.

By 6:00 a.m. EST Wednesday, more than 675,000 digital signatures appeared on 69 separate secession petitions covering all 50 states, according to a Daily Caller analysis of requests lodged with the White House’s “We the People” online petition system.

A petition from Vermont, where talk of secession is a regular feature of political life, was the final entry.

  • People aren’t seceding from these countries, they are seceding from The System.

There’s nothing they can do to your mind, if you won’t let them.

    • Spot on. Starving the beast is the only way to stop this mayhem. There’s no fixing The System so the only thing to do is leave it & start a new one based on true values.

  • Nothing will come of this… It’s too bad. People are unsatisfied with the system of control…and want change- if we can tear ourselves away from our iPhones, TV, and Net, that is..
