(by Lawrence Bonk, IJReview) – Justin Puckett sent his daughter to school with a bag lunch and received a snide note in return, from a teacher no less.
Puckett, who incidentally is a doctor, packed his daughter a lunch that consisted of ham slices, pickles, marshmallows and chocolate. Sure, maybe not the most nutritious lunch on Earth, but plausibly better than the cafeteria lunches they’ve been serving at schools nowadays.
No harm done, right?
Not so fast. A substitute teacher at Kirksville Primary School in Missouri caught wind of the illicit repast and decided to do something about it. That something? Chiding the parents by sending along a note with daughter Alia:
”Dr. and Mrs. Puckett, The cafeteria reported to me that Alia’s lunch today included four chocolate bars, a bag of marshmallows, Ritz crackers and a pickle.” The letter reads. “Please see that she packs a proper lunch tomorrow.”
Finally, adding insult to insult, the letter ends with a curt demand for a parent signature. The doctor and his wife denied that request.
“I think that this was just the straw that broke the camel’s back for me,” Puckett told ABC News.
Puckett, it must be noted, is the Medical Director of the Complete Family Medicine clinic in Kirksville, so one would imagine he knows what constitutes a healthy lunch. Even if he has no clue, playing devil’s advocate here, it is probably not the substitute teacher’s job to inform him. Dr. Justin Puckett is, contrary to this note’s insinuation, a grown up.
