America is a Radical Nation

(Before It's News)

Did you know the United States is in the same category as China and North Korea when it comes to human rights? The sad reality is, unborn children are just as vulnerable here in America, the supposedly freest country in the world, as they are in these two communist controlled nations.

America is one of only four nations that allows abortion up until birth. In addition to China and North Korea, Canada is the last of the unlucky group. Chuck Donovan of the Lozier Institute, the research arm of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, shared this unwelcome news at the Heritage Foundation’s Conservative Policy Summit last week in Washington, DC:

“In international perspective, and this is one of the studies of the Lozier Institute, we stand in the international stage as a radical nation with respect to our abortion laws. I don’t think most Americans reflect on this, but there are only four countries in the world where abortion, on an elective basis it’s permitted up until birth.”

How did we come to this tragic point?

As many know, 1973 lives in infamy as the year preborn Americans lost their God-given right to live. It was 42 years ago on this day, January 22, 1973, that Roe v. Wade set the stage for our current abortion culture and it is why thousands of people are coming to Washington, DC today to take part in the annual March for Life. Justice Harry Blackmun wrote the Roe v. Wade majority opinion, citing the 14th Amendment’s “right to privacy” clause when arguing that women could choose to terminate their pregnancies. This case laid the foundation for what pro-abortion advocates currently justify as “women’s reproductive rights.” Because of such relaxed abortion laws, over 57 million babies have been murdered since that fateful day in court.

Roe v. Wade’s legalization of abortion has encouraged a culture in which killing babies is the norm. Nowadays, girls don’t think twice about having the procedure, knowing a Planned Parenthood is right down the street from their college dorm. That’s no exaggeration. In 2012, LifeNews conducted a study to find that, out of 780 Planned Parenthood affiliates across America, almost 80 percent were located within 5 miles of a college or university.

Despite Planned Parenthood’s dominant presence in America and its obsession with getting young girls to abortion clinics, China is in a league of its own when it comes to abortion. This past September, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)Heritage ActionScorecardSen. Marco Rubio82%Senate Republican AverageSee Full Scorecard82% (R-FL) penned an important op-ed on the One Child Policy, the world’s most inhumane law. This deadly policy restricts families to one child and, if parents refuse to obey, the government often forces mothers to have abortions if they are pregnant with their second child. Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, an organization which brings awareness to this horrid law, reported how one woman was dragged out of her home by officials in the middle of the night and forced to have an abortion at six months pregnant. This is just one egregious example. Sickeningly, the One Child Policy law has condemned over 400 million children to death.

Is this the kind of country with which we want to share the same category? A nation which forces women to abort their healthy, wanted children?

Abortion has dangerously become second nature to many young women with unplanned pregnancies for the past four decades here in America. However, pro-life Americans haven’t been sitting dormant. Through life-affirming organizations and bold legislation, the pro-life movement has been opening our eyes to the humanity we are destroying.

One need look no further than Texas to see what kind of an impact even one law can have on the culture of life. Thanks to the pro-life bill H.B. 2, which bans abortions at 20 weeks, when unborn babies can feel pain, and places higher standards on abortion clinics, dozens of abortion clinics in the Lone Star State are closed. The new GOP-led Congress is currently trying to introduce similar legislation called the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to bring attention to fetal pain. Although the bill is currently being delayed, a few especially pro-life congressmen are determined to bring it up for a vote.

Laws aren’t the only thing preventing abortions. Americans’ hearts are also transforming as technology forces us to consider abortion in a new light. Science now allows us to gaze and wonder at babies in the womb as they grow from conception until birth, no less worthy at the first stage than at his or her last. This is why pro-abortion advocates try their darndest to suppress ultrasound requirements, which give mothers the chance to see their growing unborn baby before deciding whether or not to end its life. They want to prevent mothers from putting a face to the unknown. Despite these attempts, Americans are increasingly rejecting abortion. A Gallup poll from 2013, for instance, revealed that while 45 percent considered themselves “pro-choice,” 48 percent identified themselves as “pro-life.”  There’s a reason today’s Millennials are being dubbed “the pro-life generation.”

Yet, we have a ways to go.

Hundreds of thousands of people will march in the nation’s capitol today to honor the lives we have lost since Roe v. Wade and to fan the flames of a pro-life movement that continues to gain momentum. Walk with them. It doesn’t have to be physically. Volunteer at a local crisis pregnancy center, call your legislators to help progress pro-life policy, help counsel terrified mothers who are unsure they can take care of an unexpected child, and pray for America to once again become a nation that cherishes life.

Let’s make America “radical” for a good reason.
