NATO’s Jens Stoltenberg unleashed the latest tirade against Russia this morning proclaiming – though offering no proof – that there are Russian forces and heavy equipment in Ukraine and a high number of Russian forces on the border which “doesn’t contribute to a peaceful solution.” Apparently pre-empting this outburst, Pravda reports Anatoly Tsyganok, director of the Military Forecasting Centre, exclaims, “Ukraine reiterates that Russia is in the war, but it’s not true,” adding that in fact “the USA and the NATO have artificial satellites continuously circulating above this territory and control the situation,” concluding with a jab at The US & NATO that “Russia has never participated in the military conflict. And no attempt to involve Russia in the conflict will be crowned with success.”

The US ambassador to the UN accused Russia of violating the Minsk agreement and assistance to the militia, according to UNN. On Wednesday the United States permanent representative to the UN Samantha Power said at a meeting of the UN Security Council: “The current situation is dangerous because Russia, as before, continues training and supplying the separatists with heavy weapons, and it is waging war with them side by side, which is a flagrant violation of the Minsk Agreement, Ukrainian sovereignty and international law.”

The atmosphere is complicated at the talks of the “Norman Four ” foreign ministers, speed problem resolution is not present, but the statement is planned. Kiev used the tragedy at Volnovakha for mongering war hysteria, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine. A terrible incident that happened on January 13 with a passenger bus at Volnovakha, was used by Kiev for instant, without investigation and trial, accusation of militia of this crime, – the diplomat also stressed.

LPR MoD units captured both checkpoints. The 31st constantly passed from hand to hand: now we were there, now the AFU. Dryomov’s Cossack regiment storms 28th checkpoint. The US military command plans to develop cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, complementing them with new programs. This was announced by the commander of the US Army in Europe Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges. I think we’ll start it in spring, – He said during a briefing. According to the American general, Ukrainian soldiers will be trained to aid the wounded on the battlefield, resist artillery and organize anti-interference communication. Earlier, Washington has supplied Kiev with artillery reconnaissance system. Gorlovka continues to be under heavy artillery fire. Russia suspects 65 Ukrainian citizens of committing war crimes, including representatives of the government, RIA Novosti reports. Message from Gorlovka. By 15:47 intense bombardment of Gorlovka continues. There are multiple hits in Komsomolets with large-caliber. Damage and casualties are reported. “Grad” falls in the CCP and other areas. The intensity of the fire is not reduced, the shock wave from the falling shells is felt even in basements. Militia keeps defenses at checkpoints and does not let security forces into the city, several attempts to break through were reflected.

Message from militia. Fighting continues for Avdeyevka and Peski. By noon of January 21 Ukrainian security forces occupied only part of Peski, militias are planning to release the settlement completely by the evening. Avdeyevka is now fully under the AFU, the battles take place on the outskirts of the city.

Ukrainian army continues to inflict massive strikes at the peace city quarters with multiple launch rocket systems “Grad” and self-propelled artillery systems such as “Akatsia” and “Gvozdika”. The main objective of the AFU are areas adjacent to Donetsk airport: Petrovsky, Kuibyshevsky and Kievsky. As a result of the night shelling 12 civilians were injured and one person was killed. Last day more than 30 people suffered, five of them were killed, according to LifeNews.

On January 21 the situation remained tense in Novorossia. Sections of the front, where there was the most intense fighting, have not changed. DPR army units continued to attack Peski and Avdeyevka, but still by the end of the day the front line has not changed: the security forces continue to hold the part of Peski, militias failed to advance at Avdeyevka. Taking Avdeyevka probably would be possible after a full cleanup of Peski.

Talks of “Norman Four” were held in Berlin. The meeting was held against the backdrop of a sharp escalation of the conflict in Donbass, Foreign Ministers of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France participated in it. The result was somewhat unexpected, given the fairly pessimistic statements on the situation in Donbass of the parties in the previous days. Sergey Lavrov, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Laurent Fabius and Pavel Klimkin managed to agree on a withdrawal of heavy weapons from the demarcation line established by arrangements in Minsk on September 19, as well as the revitalization of the contact group. The latter is called by ministers for establishing sub-working groups on relevant aspects of the Minsk Agreement.
