My fellow Conservative,
Today is the day that the Senate could vote on the Keystone XL pipeline!
This pipeline is an absolutely crucial infrastructure project that will set us down the path towards North American energy independence.
More important than the final vote, however, are the votes on potential amendments to the legislation. These amendments will determine whether the pipeline is ultimately built and it is absolutely essential that you force your Senators to vote YES on them!
Here are the amendments on the schedule for today:
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) introduced an amendment to ban exporting oil from the pipeline. This is common sense. If American taxpayers are going to be footing the bill for even a fraction of this $8 BILLION pipeline, then the oil that it transports should stay in America. Why should we spend so much money on an infrastructure project only to help a Canadian company sell oil to other countries?
This is one of the Left’s chief complaints. This amendment puts an end to that debate. This is an American project and it should be undertaken to provide Americans with cheaper fuel.
Hurry! Tell your Senators to support these common sense Keystone XL amendments!
Another amendment from the Democrats is one that would mandate that the Keystone XL pipeline be built using only American steel. This, again, is common sense. Why should taxpayers help foot the bill for an infrastructure project that would use foreign materials?
Every piece of the pipeline should be made in America. Not only is it logical to bolster American industries, but also it would be dangerous to trust such an important infrastructure project to foreign made parts subject to failure and sabotage.
Believe it or not, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) sponsored this amendment. I guess that proves that even a broken clock is right every now and then…
The third common sense amendment on the table today is Senator Rob Portman’s (R-OH) energy efficiency amendment. The goal of this amendment is to make sure that the Keystone pipeline brings oil to American consumers in an environmentally conscious way. Considering how inefficient it is to transport oil across country by rail and truck, a pipeline would obviously be a step in the right direction!
I don’t have a problem with any of these amendments. The problem is that Democrats are going to abuse the amendment process in order to postpone the final vote.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised an open amendment process. This means that anyone will be allowed to introduce amendments for legislation. This was something that Harry Reid prohibited. When he ran the Senate, only liberal amendments were ever considered.
Democrats are planning to take advantage of McConnell’s generosity to draw out the amendment process indefinitely.
The Keystone Pipeline has the potential to bring a lot of good to Americans. But that is only possible if the pipeline is built the right way.
The pipeline needs to be built using only American workers, American steel, it needs to make oil transportation safer and cleaner (which it will), and the oil that it transports needs to be sold to Americans.
It’s that simple!
A vote is imminent! Tell your Senators to support these common sense Keystone XL amendments!
The Senate is the chamber voting on these amendments today, but it is just as important to demand action from your congressman as well. When the Senate is done with the bill, it will go back to the House in all likelihood for another vote.
We have waited six years for this infrastructure project. For six long years, Obama and the Democrats have done everything in their power to delay the pipeline’s construction.
They can’t stand to think that this project would actually help Americans. They need for gasoline to be more expensive in order to justify their push for renewables. They need oil transportation to be expensive in order to stop new oil exploration.
The Democrats have their marching orders from liberal billionaires like Tom Steyer. They want to make gasoline as expensive and inconvenient as possible.
The votes are there for this bill to pass and believe it or not, the votes might even be there to override Obama’s veto. But you need to get loud right now.
You need to force your Congressman and Senators to vote on behalf of the American people, not anti-oil special interests!
A vote is imminent! Tell your Senators to support these common sense Keystone XL amendments!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
