At a time when the human trafficking bill is locked up in the Senate over Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)Heritage ActionScorecardSen. Harry Reid10%Senate Democrat Average29See Full Scorecard10%‘s refusal to prevent federal funds from being used to provide abortions, the GAO has released a study showing Reid’s resistance as just a part of the rapacious, cash-(and baby)-vacuuming abortion industry.

U.S. federal and state taxpayers sent nearly $1.5 billion to Planned Parenthood and five other groups that promote abortion and population control between 2010 and 2012, according to a federal watchdog report.

The report, which was released to the public on Wednesday in response to a request by more than 70 members of Congress.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) provided an update to a 2010 report on funding provided to Advocates for Youth, Guttmacher Institute, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Population Council, and the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).

The report examined federal funding for the organizations — including those dollars furnished through state offices, such as Medicaid funding — as well as how the groups spent the money.

The failure of the GOP in the House and Senate to restrict abortion is legendary. When the House had the chance to restrict late term abortion, many GOP women (Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)Heritage ActionScorecardRep. Renee Ellmers51%House Republican Average39See Full Scorecard51% leading the charge) decided that their lady-parts were threatened by limiting the procedure. So a bill that had been overwhelmingly passed when the Democrats owned the Senate and had no chance of passage went down to defeat once the GOP owned the Congress.

We’ve  written about this before: Failure Theater. When the GOP puts on a big show, a spectacular song and dance, for the rubes in the cheap seats — that would be you and me — but in reality they intend to do nothing. The funding of the NON-ESSENTIAL functions within DHS and allowing Obama’s illegal amnesty program to progress is the most recent example. The GOP has controlled the House for two of the three years of the report, 2011 and 2012. Yet the funding of abortion groups continued apace as GOP representatives went back home and woofed and woofed about their pro-life credentials.

Kansas Republican Congressman Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS)Heritage ActionScorecardRep. Tim Huelskamp92%House Republican Average39See Full Scorecard92% said that “16 months ago, I joined 71 fellow members of Congress to demand a Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation into how Planned Parenthood, the largest abortionist in the world, uses our tax dollars. Last week, GAO finally completed their investigation and confirmed much of what we already knew – massive amounts of taxpayer dollars are being pocketed by a group that is snuffing out the lives of nearly 900 babies every day.”

So after being in power for four years we have a report. And you know what the next report is going to show? That during the past two years the spending was at least the same.

One point five billion dollars is not chump change. Even if the money did not pay for abortions, per se, money is fungible. The funds given these murderous groups by the Congress freed up money they received from other sources for providing abortions, for lobbying for abortions, and for going to court to expand the scope of abortion.

These people don’t care about life. They don’t care about keeping their promises. They don’t care about anything more than being re-elected. Quite honestly, I’m not sure we are any better served in restricting abortion by having Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)Heritage ActionScorecardRep.
