The Leader of the Jewish Home party also entered the mosque on Thursday night. Israeli politicians have been visiting the mosque despite warnings by Palestinian officials. They say the move will have dangerous repercussions and further escalate the tensions in the region. The Ibrahimi Mosque is known to Israelis as the Cave of the Patriarchs. An Israeli man entered the mosque with an assault rifle and killed over two dozen Muslim worshipers and injured dozens more in 1994.
