Russia’s ambassador to Denmark warned that such a move will have consequences for Copenhagen and its naval vessels will be legitimate targets for Russian nuclear missiles. Denmark has rejected Moscow’s comments as unacceptable. NATO’s envisaged missile shield has long been a bone of contention between Russia and the Western military alliance, of which Denmark is a member. Moscow considers the missile defense system a threat to Europe’s strategic balance. But, NATO claims the shield could offer protection against what it calls rogue states. Denmark said last year that it was planning to equip one of its frigates with radar to be part of the missile shield.
