The retired Maj. General Robert Scales said on air of the American TV that only by killing Russians the USA can help Kiev to win the conflict in Donbass.
– It’s game, set and match in Ukraine. The only way the United States can have any effect in this region and turn the tide is start killing Russians. — he said.
At the same time Scales expressed regret that such a possibility of future developments is unlikely, according to Fox News.
Meanwhile, in the nearest time the US will ship drones, communication systems, counter-mortar and counter-artillery radars, night-vision goggles. Overall, this equipment is worth 75 million dollars. Also, Kiev will get 230 military automobiles.
However, only recently the White House made an announcement in which Barack Obama ruled out the possibility of weapon shipments to Ukraine. Supposedly, he is for the diplomatic solution.
PS. Naturally, this is not the official position of the Pentagon or the White House, but rather the opinion of the hawks who want immediate escalation and who are dissatisfied with the “long game” by Obama and his circle. For them, the characters whacked by Vietnam, the current tempo of the conflict development is insufficient and they want immediate escalation, where the dreams of “killing Russians” will take shape. But for now Obama doesn’t want to follow their lead and pursues his own line, slowly roasting Ukraine on a skewer of cold war, pushing aside those who want to burn it right away and prevent cooking the meal properly.
So while the hawks go nuts and Merkel fumbles in Europe in the vain hope of getting off the American hook, the Americans continue to stand firm on their line of inflating the situation. They didn’t permit to freeze the conflict using the junta arms (their main instrument in this conflict), in this way Merkel’s efforts were made dependent on the behavior of the fascist junta in Kiev. In essence the USA have a constant option of undermining the Minsk agreements at any moment, which will be a serious blow for the European diplomacy and will also secure the intensity of the war in Ukraine that is convenient for the USA.
To show the whole seriousness of the design, new American units are redeployed into the Baltic states (under the disguise of rotation for exercises). Meanwhile, yet another shipments of weapons (of non-lethal nature) is being organized into the Ukraine itself. This is not very critical for the situation at the front (although it will help the junta military increase their combat readiness on a number of positions). Rather, it is directed more towards supporting a certain course towards military support of the junta, where the option of shipping lethal weapons will open when the time to “kill Russians” will come.
Americans have a quite clear desire to “win without fighting”, as the Chinese classic would say. But due to a number of objective reasons the USA are not going to be able to win against Russia here without fighting. From this fact stems certain hesitation in the White House, because “killing Russians” directly may lead to a situation in which some folks will be “killing Americans” in the Ukraine. And even though for Scales the question of weapon shipments or of the direct American participation has obvious answer, the White House administration doesn’t mind resolving the conflict by non-military means, within the boundaries of minimizing risks and costs.
The tendency toward a higher intensity of the war in Ukraine suggests that the methods used by the USA to secure the political capitulation from Russia either don’t work very well or don’t work at all. So, the voices of hawks who demand to “kill Russians” become increasingly loud and the pressure on Obama from the radical circles in the Senate and the Pentagon increases. Behind this there is not only the foreign policy calculation associated with the weakening of Russia, but also the opinion of the defense lobby, for which the conflict against Russia and a reissue of the Cold War is a perfect way to win the necessary contracts for years ahead, under the conditions of the structural crisis in the American economy and cutbacks in defense programs.
Just like during the period before WW II, a major conflict in Europe is viewed by a part of the American establishment as a convenient way to blow steam off the system and to survive the crisis years by weakening other countries. In this respect the White House and the Pentagon hawks don’t have major disagreements, the question is only in the means of achieving these goals.
Such people as Scales and McCain try to ride before the hounds, demanding starting markedly direct actions, while the Obama administration and the military and industrials circles that support it are more inclined to act within the confines of the strategy of indirect actions for now, where the warmongers like McCain and Scales are more of an obstacle to the already working plan of a medium-intensity prolonged conflict against Russia, in the finale of which the political regime in Russia is supposed to change and the Russia’s abilities of conducting subjective foreign policy are supposed to be liquidated.
Russia, naturally, has to take both possible scenarios of American actions into account, which is already happening since October-November of 2014, when the political leadership of the country fully understood the American goals in this war. This made further attempts to make peace with the USA meaningless. Actually, the goal of the RF at this stage is to make sure that the situation in Ukraine develops in a way that guarantees that general Scales and the likes of him will remain alone with their regrets.
