Election Contest Results
The results are in for our 2014 Election Contest!
We had 315 entries this year, but in the end, we had to pick three top finishers.
Introducing our 2014 Election Contest Winners:
1st Place, Krista Haagenstad:
With 31 points, Krista missed just four questions (Maine Governor, Alaska Senate, North Carolina Senate, and New Hampshire House races). She will receive our grand prize of $250!
More about Krista: She is 31 and living in Philadelphia, where she works for a political fundraising firm. She is a proud mama to Riggins the beagle.
She admits she did little in the way of preparing for the quiz, opting rather for a strategy of “go with your gut,” a strategy that has led her to sweep her office March Madness pool 2 out of the last 3 years.
What does Krista predict for 2016? She thinks, 1) the presidential race will be rockier/more entertaining than most people predict, 2) there will be lots of good Democratic recruits running for the Senate next year and 3) there’s no where to go but up for the House.

3rd Place, Tom Dine:
With 30 points, Tom came in a 6-way tie, but ousted the others by guessing the correct number of GOP seats (53). Tom will receive our third place prize of $50.
More about Tom: He has a 52-year career in American foreign policy and politics. He is still active at the age of 74, serving on five non-profit boards and writing and speaking. He lives in Washington with his wife of 47 years, Joan Corbett Dine. They met in the Peace Corps.
He says he, too, did not prepare for the quiz, “just took it on the spot.”
His predictions for the 2016 races: If the 2016 presidential race is between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush, the winner will cross the finish line by a nose. Tom also believes that turnout will be massive, shaking up the Senate one more time.
