Abbott using 'terrorism' as a cover for austerity: Tough anti-terrorism measures could strip suspects of welfare, vote | 21 May 2015 | Terrorists would lose their welfare payments and the right to vote, and the citizenship oath would be toughened up, under a raft of anti-terrorism measures being considered by the Abbott Government. The Herald Sun understands the Government will soon introduce laws to strip Australian citizenship from dual nationals who are committing terrorism offences. And further measures are being considered to combat Australians who fight alongside terror groups such as Islamic State, or support them by fundraising or recruiting. They include restricting their rights to an Australian passport, banning them from voting, and refusing them access to Medicare, the dole and any other welfare.
