(Before It's News)

bum fight

The honeymoon is over. The bloom is off the rose. The cold light of dawn has arrived. The heady romance is now headed for divorce court.

For a few weeks POLITICO, and in particular its correspondent Dylan Byers (@DylanByers), has been the go-to guy the mainstream media use to stomp on the stories the Washington Free Beacon has been breaking.

For instance, back on May 14, Free Beacon broke the story of the corrupt arrangement allowed by ABC News whereby Clinton operative George Stephanopolous was allowed to grill the author of “Clinton Cash,” Peter Schweizer, without disclosing his big-dollar donations to the Clinton Foundation and his close association with that RICO-violation-and-charity. When Free Beacon asked ABC News for comment, they gave their side of the story to the house-broken and stump-trained Byers who ran with it as though he had done more than simply transcribing the ABC News press release.

Last week the Free Beacon exposed the collusion between the New York Times and David Brock’s American Bridge organization which led to the NYT writing a hard hitting expose on how Marco Rubio AND his wife racked up a grand total of 17 moving violations over an  18 year period. Just like ABC News, when Free Beacon committed “journalism” by asking the New York Times for comment before publishing, the NYT ran to, wait for it, Dylan Byars to tell their side of the story. And they seem to have lied to him in the process. I guess this fits in the “I’ll respect you in the morning” category of lies you should expect to hear.

The story changed a bit yesterday when the New York Times did an epic of investigative journalism that found the Rubio’s were financially overextended… not that they engaged in fraud, they didn’t turn Arkansas swampland into a windfall, they didn’t turn Nevada desert into a shopping mall, they didn’t make a windfall on cattle futures. In the article, the NYT managed to use an Obama political donor as their “financial expert” (uncovered, naturally, by Free Beacon). Just that they were overextended. In a fairly transparent attempt to give Rubio the South-Florida-drug-smuggler image, because all those Florida Cubans are just like Tony Montana, the NYT reported that he had a “speedboat.” Only it wasn’t. At this point someone at POLITICO told Byars that this would be a good opportunity to do something other than fellate the New York Times and he ran this story:

Rubio’s ‘luxury speedboat’ is a fishing boat

In an effort to showcase Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 100%‘s history of financial struggles, The New York Times reported Tuesday that the Florida Republican had spent “$80,000 for a luxury speedboat” even as he faced outstanding debts.

But while Rubio did indeed spend $80,000 on a boat, the vessel in question is not the glamorous “luxury speedboat” the Times article portrayed. It is, in fact, an offshore fishing boat.

Hilarity ensued. Eric Lipton, of the NYT Washington Bureau, gets his panties wadded over the POLITICO calling out this sophomoric effort by the NYT to trash Rubio and accuses POLITICO of being in Rubio’s pocket.

Byars begins the middle-school girl slapfight:

POLITICO’s Florida reporter, Marc Caputo… yes, they have one… tries to stop the fight by offering his viriginity to Lipton because he can see who is the Great White and who is the freakin Remora in this relationship:

And then the world chimed in and fun was had by all. (A flavor can be had below but to enjoy the true awesomeness you have to visit the Twitter conversation.) This is actually hilarious. What it illustrates is the role the major media believes Dylan Byers and his ridiculous and silly “On Media” feature at POLITICO fills– and to a certain extent it shows the role other POLITICO reporters thinks it fills. So long as he serves as a cheerleader for media that is bashing various GOP figures he’s welcome to the adult table. The moment he strays he finds himself back in the high chair.
