US spying agencies have reportedly been tracking Russian President Vladimir Putin for over 20 years.
British
daily, The Times, reported that Putin has been of deep interest to
American intelligence services since he was a senior municipal official
in Saint Petersburg in the 1990s. In the late 90s, a former CIA official
had accused Putin of playing a major role in looting his country. The
US government is under mounting pressure after revelations regarding its
long history of spying on foreign leaders. Recently, whistleblower
website WikiLeaks said the US National Security Agency had spied on
three last French presidents. It also revealed that the NSA had spied on
senior German officials, including the office of Chancellor Angela
Merkel.
