Iran deal is sealed . . . The United States and other world powers this morning announced a deal addressing Iran’s nuclear weapons program for at least ten years. The agreement restricts Iran’s nuclear programs in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against the country. However, the agreement may be flawed. According several reports, many people are planning to live longer than ten years and could become adversely affected if they do. White House Dossier
Iran gets all the nuclear fuel it wants in 15 years . . . The deal preserves Iran’s ability to produce as much nuclear fuel as it wishes after year 15 of the agreement, and allows it to conduct research on advanced centrifuges after the eighth year. Moreover, the Iranians won the eventual lifting of an embargo on the import and export of conventional arms and ballistic missiles — a step the departing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, warned about just last week. New York Times

Snapback snafu . . . The much-touted “snapback” provision in the Iran nuclear deal that will restore sanctions in the event of Iranian noncompliance involves a convoluted process that will last around 65 days and, after jumping a series of hurdles, may result in sanctions being reimposed – “unless the U.N. Security Council decides otherwise.” CNS News
Deal silent on Parchin facility . . . The Iranian nuclear deal reached in Vienna contains no reference to the Parchin military facility where most of Iran’s past nuclear arms-related work was carried out. Additionally, the draft agreement made public on Tuesday contains no stated limits on Iran’s Russian-made Bushehr nuclear power facility that analysts say could produce plutonium for dozens of bombs. Mark Levin: Deal will usher in World War III . . . “To arm up the Iranian regime, this terrorist regime in Tehran — you know, Obama likes to say that Reagan and Kennedy negotiated with the Soviets. U.S. to teach Iran to thwart threats to program . . . The United States and other world powers will help to teach Iran how to thwart and detect threats to its nuclear program, according to the parameters of a deal reached Tuesday to rein in Iran’s contested nuclear program. Under the terms of a deal that provides Iran billions of dollars in sanctions relief, Iran and global powers will cooperate to help teach Iran how to manage its nuclear infrastructure, which will largely remain in tact under the deal. Nobel Peace Prize: Signed, sealed, delivered . . . You know it’s a bad deal when within hours, there is talk of a Nobel Peace Prize in the air. Carl Bildt, Sweden’s former Prime Minister, tweeted: “I think the work of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament this year just got much easier.” Powerline

Obama trumpets the deal . . . Speaking at the White House this morning, President Obama expressed confidence that the United States could hold Iran to the agreement. “We will be in a position to verify all these commitments,” Obama said. “Inspectors will be able to access any suspicious locations.” White House Dossier
Obama moving on Iran deal before Congress reviews . . . Despite a legal obligation to allow Congress to review the Iran nuclear agreement for 60 days, the Obama administration will press ahead with a U.N. Security Council resolution enshrining the deal, likely within days. CNS News
Obama seeks massive prison reform . . . President Obama on Tuesday laid out a sweeping plan for criminal justice reform in America, calling for the end of mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenders, a review of solitary confinement in prisons and a host of other steps. U.S. issues Kenya travel warning ahead of Obama trip . . . The United States has warned its citizens in Kenya ahead of visit by President Barack Obama of the risk of terrorist attacks, singling out a conference that Obama is due to address. Homeland Security chief seems unaware of Steinle . . . Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Tuesday was asked by a Congressional panel Tuesday whether the White House had reached out to the family of Kate Steinle, the woman shot to death in San Francsco. Steinle parents support strict immigration law . . . The parents of a woman shot to death on a San Francisco pier said Monday in a cable television news interview that they support a proposal to give mandatory prison time to deported people who return to the U.S. illegally. Associated Press
Netanyahu: “We will always defend ourselves” . . . The fallout from an Israeli attack would be immense. But I don’t know how Israel can possibly tolerate an Iranian nuclear weapon pointed its way, which is what the agreement ensures – albeit perhaps with a delay of ten to fifteen years, assuming Iran doesn’t successfully cheat.
