Congress powerless to block Iran deal . . . Republicans will complain loudly. But barring a Democratic insurrection, they lack the votes to override an Obama veto. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), a strident critic of Obama’s foreign policy, was the only senator to vote against the Iran review bill this spring. He said Tuesday he did so because the measure gives the “illusion of oversight without oversight” and “acquiesces” to the president by forcing Congress to amasss a veto-proof majority to block a deal — rather than make the administration accrue 67 votes in support of the deal, as he would have to do with a formal treaty. Politico
Cotton was right. The legislation by Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., was a surrender to Obama masquerading as tough action.

Hillary: People should and do trust me . . . In Hillary Clinton’s first national interview of the 2016 race, she attacked her Republican rivals on immigration and dismissed the suggestion that the American people have a problem trusting her. “People should and do trust me,” she told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. She blamed the “barrage of attacks that are largely fomented by and coming from the right” for fueling a perception that trust is an area of vulnerability for her. CNN
Defends private emails . . . “Everything I did was permitted,” Clinton said. “There was no law, no regulation, there was nothing that did not give me the full authority to decide how I was going to communicate. The Hill
Unless, of course, she erased evidence that she did things that weren’t permitted.
Attacks sanctuary city policy . . . Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton joined the condemnation of San Francisco’s “sanctuary” policy Tuesday. “The city made a mistake, not to deport someone that the federal government strongly felt should be deported,” Clinton said. “So I have absolutely no support for a city that ignores the strong evidence that should be acted on.” Fox News
State accused of hiding Hillary aide’s job arrangement . . . State Department officials “failed to disclose” a special employment status granted to Cheryl Mills who was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff, according to Sen. Charles Grassley. Daily Caller
Trump buys a campaign team . . . The real-estate developer-turned reality TV star has never formally run for political office before, yet has put together a New Hampshire operation using a pretty simple plan: purchasing one off the shelf, in this case by hiring top staff away from Koch brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity. Trump is a bad deal for the GOP . . . Many of my colleagues on the right have taken pains to logic-chop Trump’s remarks. And it is true that some number of rapists and drug dealers are illegally crossing the border. Others have defended Trump by noting that what people like about this Lonesome Rhodes in a $10,000 suit is his fearlessness, bluntly tackling issues that other politicians fear to touch. That is a fine point in an indictment of the professional political class, but it is not a defense of Trump. Jonah Goldberg

Cruz embraces voter targeting . . . In his quest for the presidency, Cruz is now looking to co-opt the tactic most credited with helping Obama win the White House in 2008 and 2012: Data analysis. The Cruz campaign hopes it can harness and build upon Team Obama’s famed ability to target and turn out voters in a nationwide race. National Review
Bernie Sanders, gun nut? . . . “Folks who do not like guns is fine, but we have millions of people who are gun owners in this country; 99.9 percent of those people obey the law,” said Sanders. “I want to see real serious debate and action on guns. But it is not going to take place if we simply have extreme positions on both sides. I think I can bring us to the middle,” he added. Washington Times

Republican senators not getting primaried . . . The bloody primary battles between Republican senators and tea party activists that have cost the party dearly for years aren’t materializing yet in 2016. Politico
GOP blames Obamacare for merger-mania . . . “The incentives are in there for consolidation,” Edmund Haislmaier, a senior health research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, said about the healthcare law. “For all the talk about competition, it’s really much more about consolidating everything so the government can better manage it,” he added. DOJ demanded to see IRS records before Congress . . . The Obama DOJ wanted IRS employees who were going to testify to Congress to turn over documents to the DOJ before giving them to Congress. Records also detail how the Obama IRS gave the FBI 21 computer disks, containing 1.25 million pages of confidential IRS returns from 113,000 nonprofit social 501(c)(4) welfare groups – or nearly every 501(c)(4) in the United States – as part of its prosecution effort. According to a letter from then-House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, “This revelation likely means that the IRS – including possibly Lois Lerner – violated federal tax law by transmitting this information to the Justice Department.” Judicial Watch

A young red-tailed hawk arrived on the grounds. For city folk like me, it’s a glorious thing to see. McCain: We’re losing to ISIS . . . President Obama’s strategy against the Islamic State terror group came under harsh criticism from senators on Tuesday who said the United States is losing the war by not doing more to attack the group. John McCain (R., Ariz.) said the president was guilty of “self-delusion” in claiming progress is being made against the ultra-violent al Qaeda offshoot, also known as ISIL or ISIS. China’s stock market collapsing . . . China’s tumbling stock market showed signs of seizing up on Wednesday, as companies scrambled to escape the rout by having their shares suspended and indexes plunged after the securities regulator warned of “panic sentiment” gripping investors. Reuters
Hamas alleges tourture – by Palestinians . . . Hamas alleged Tuesday that more than 200 of its members had been arrested by the Palestinian Authority recently, with most of them tortured, threatening to widen a rift between Palestinian factions. AFP

NM Fraud crackdown sends illegal licenses plummeting . . . A crackdown on document fraud has sent the number of driver’s licenses issued to illegal aliens in New Mexico plunging by 70 percent, while revealing that the state likely issued tens of thousands of bogus licenses after becoming the first state to adopt the controversial policy a dozen years ago. Federal agent’s gun used by illegal in SF killing . . . Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez pleaded not guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder in last week’s shooting. Sanchez told two television stations he found the gun wrapped in a shirt on the pier. Associated Press
Jimmy Carter: Jesus would approve of gay marriage . . . Former President Jimmy Carter in an interview with HuffPost Live on Tuesday said he believes Jesus would approve gay marriage and would encourage any “love affair” that was “honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else.” CNS News
Christian colleges must accept gays in married dorms? . . . A Christian college that accepts government funding but refuses to allow a same-sex married couple to live in housing for married students would be “on the edge of the indefensible,” Americans United for Separation of Church and State executive director Rev.
