Rpublican presidential candidate Rick Santorum appeared at the first 2016 Republican presidential primary debate on Thursday and did not disappoint his social conservative following.
Fox News debate moderator Bill Hemmer pointed out to the candidate that the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion was considered “settled law,” and asked if he thought the recent ruling that legalized same-sex marriage was also settled.
“It is not any more than the Dred Scott [decision backing slavery] was settled law to Abraham Lincoln,” Santorum insisted. “This a rogue Supreme Court decision.”
The former Pennsylvania senator argued that the court had also acted “outside of their authority” by finding that an anti-abortion law that he wrote to be unconstitutional.
“You know, what these Planned Parenthood videos are showing are partial-birth abortions,” Santorum said, making a crushing motion with his hand. “Abortions being done where the baby is being delivered first to preserve those organs, and then they crush the skull.”
“We passed a bill and we said, ‘Supreme Court, you’re wrong! We’re a co-equal branch of the government, we have every right to stand up and say what is constitutional.’” SOURCE
