The situation is no longer a question of whether to take Trump seriously or not. The facts say he’s here and he’s not leaving and he’s blasting a message that sits close to the hearts of most Americans, both Republican and Democrat alike.
The GOP leadership has advised all their candidates to avoid Trump…to ignore him…I suppose on the strange assumption he’ll go away and leave Washington to the same losers who’ve been running it for decades. The problem is that they are not just hurting themselves, but are hurting America in doing so. Aside from whether you support Trump and his message or not, the fact is he’s leading in all the polls.
Now if the GOP succeed in pushing him out and nominating another candidate for the main election, they’re going to accomplish two unwanted things: one, they’re going to be running a second-rate, no-chance-in-hades-of-winning candidate…and two, they’ll push Trump into an independent run like Perot did back in the eighties. And that run, if you remember, cost the GOP the election and put Clinton in the White House.
If you’ve got a winner in your barn, don’t run the mule in the race. The GOP may not like Trump, but if he stands a chance of beating Hillary, then why would you support anybody else that most assuredly won’t? If the GOP doesn’t run with Trump, they will lose and they’ll have no one to blame but themselves. Perhaps they’ll be wise enough to learn from history. If the Perot run didn’t teach them anything…well, perhaps they are a lost cause.
I just wanted to put this out as a sort of editorial piece. I do not normally concern myself with political rambling and opinions, but I continue to see the GOP trying to hedge Trump out and I just personally can’t tolerate Hillary in the White House without at least fussing a little.
