The 2015 House election for Speaker was historic. It was the first since 1925* in which more than one declared candidate from the same party received votes. Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) N/A% received 216 votes, other Republicans (including declared candidates Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) 76%, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) 95%, and Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) 87%) received 24. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 16% got 164 votes, other Democrats 2, and Colin Powell one.

That was a huge improvement over the disappointing results in the 2013 vote of the #FireBoehner movement. It’s up to the voters to demand more progress. Who did your member vote for?

A run for Congress is no small thing, and a run for Congress against an incumbent is even tougher. There are resources to help a would-be candidate (Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) 94% himself got American Majority training, an example of a group that does good work and has presented at RedState Gatherings in the past), but it’s better to plan sooner than later.

Now is the time to start finding out who is running for Congress, in other words. Now is also the time to know if your member of Congress deserves to get a conservative challenger. All the Democrats do, of course. Of the Republicans, here’s some help.
